About this ebook
Arsene Lupin, the brilliant detective created by French writer Maurice Leblanc, was often described by critics and fans as "the French Sherlock Holmes." This cheeky volume of detective stories pokes fun at that comparison by pitting Lupin's wits against the formidable talents of one "Herlock Sholmes," a master investigator who bears a striking resemblance to a certain character created by Arthur Conan Doyle.
Maurice Leblanc
Maurice Leblanc was born in 1864 in Rouen. From a young age he dreamt of being a writer and in 1905, his early work caught the attention of Pierre Lafitte, editor of the popular magazine, Je Sais Tout. He commissioned Leblanc to write a detective story so Leblanc wrote 'The Arrest of Arsène Lupin' which proved hugely popular. His first collection of stories was published in book form in 1907 and he went on to write numerous stories and novels featuring Arsène Lupin. He died in 1941 in Perpignan.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5If you've picked up /Arsene Lupin Versus Herlock Sholmes/ (also by Wildside Press) already, this book contains nothing new - the only difference between this one and that one is the translator.Personally, I liked the translation in ALVHS much better; the language used in this translation feels a little old-fashioned and pompous sometimes, and makes for far less comfortable reading (which is - well, I don't read these novels because I have to, so that's a pretty big thing to me. Tastes may vary, though).I gave four stars to the other translation - this one gets two-and-a-half because the stories and the mysteries are still good (or even great); it's just the way they're told that pleases me less.
