Viivi James

Usually Discordians are seen as jokesters, but Viivi James is serious about paganism. Viivi has been a pagan for almost 15 years. In that time, her religious practice has changed a lot, but one thing has stayed the same: her passion for teaching others about her faith. Although she now identifies as a Discordian or eclectic pagan, Viivii has experimented and researched everything from LaVeyan Satanism to Wicca. She now tries to teach others about the newer forms of paganism, as well as creating your own practice from scratch. When she isn't writing, Viivi is tending to her garden, caring for her three cats, or painting. She also sells her hand-crafted metal bracelets through Etsy. Viivi never went to college, but she is committed to the hard work and research that must go into each of her nonfiction books. She's devoted to Eris, but also work with Lilith and Hecate to keep her home and life running smoothly while Eris wreaks Her havoc.

Harnessing Fire Magic (A Witch's Guide to Elemental Magic) - Viivi James

    Introduction

It's common knowledge even in our scientific and still very much Christian age that there are four elements. Earth, Air, Fire, Water. Since the time of Aristotle, and even longer before him, these four elements have been explored, used in Alchemy and magical systems all over the world.

According to many philosophers and magicians, these four elements (plus Spirit in some cases) make up the whole world. All things, all beings, are made up of Earth, Air, Fire and Water.

Though the average person could tell you this much, it takes someone who has studied and worked with these elements to tell you how to use them. Would you be able to guess that with Fire comes rebirth and that Air can directly effect your test scores?

Chances are, you have a deep affinity for one or more of these elements but at least one confuses you. That's normal. Some people will be drawn more to the Earth, whereas others will be drawn more to the sea. For balance in your life and your magic, it is beneficial to explore all of these elements.

I am much more attuned to the element of fire, thanks to a very fire-heavy astrological chart for every female member of my family. It never occurred to me that I might want to work with the other elements until relatively late in my magical explorations.

This is why I think it's handy and almost necessary to have a list compiled that will tell you every elemental association known. It's also helpful to have a list of elemental spells that can be used in a pinch when I don't have time to make my own.

Of course, making your own spells should always be preferred. What you make will be much truer to your own soul and mind than anything I could write here. Always try to work with the elements yourself first, to gain a better understanding of them. If you need a quick start, the end of this ebook contains a short list of items and ideas that can be brought together to make your own spells. Don't be afraid to try them!

My hope is that you'll find this ebook useful as a small part of your witchy library, and an easy reference guide to all things related to the element of Fire.

    Fire

Close your eyes for just a moment. Imagine yourself holding a candle in your hand, its flame flickering in a gentle wind. All around you is black, the sort of darkness that could hold anything. That darkness means death. The only thing keeping you safe is this lone candle in your hand.

Hold your other hand over that flame, slowly moving it closer to the heat. Feel the warmth, and then the burn when you get too close for just a second. The smoke dances around your hand, lightly caressing your skin. Feel the destructive power of the flame. Pull your hand away, then snap your fingers.

The scene changes. Suddenly, you're in a forest surrounded by these flames. You open your mouth to scream and smoke strangles your throat. The heat overwhelms you.

Snap your fingers again for a scene change, and now you're in the arctic. Your bones chatter, your lips clench tight. There is no warmth here, nothing to keep your blood flowing and your skin from freezing.
