Death at the Airport
Liza and Tom were waiting in the airport. Their honeymoon had come to an end and they were on their way home. When their trip had started they had been bursting with anticipation and euphoria, but as the holiday had drawn to a close their deflated feelings had become inevitable, like air escaping from a balloon. All they were left with was a limp shell of their honeymoon. They had plenty of souvenirs and photographs, but these were mere echoes of the phenomenal time they’d had together and would no doubt be forgotten about at home, left in a corner where they could begin to gather dust.
They were dreading the uncomfortable flight, which would take them back to their monotonous lives in London. They sat side by side, holding hands but not talking, each immersed in their own thoughts. They were both so absorbed that they didn’t notice the time, or the abnormal lack of passengers in the waiting room.
Other than themselves, there were only two people in the vicinity. An American couple sat opposite them, the man reading a newspaper, the woman staring blankly into space.
Suddenly, Liza’s phone went off. The noise made her start. Pulling it out of her pocket she
