About this ebook
About the Novel:
The Color Purple is the Pulitzer Prize-winning story about female African-Americans in 1930s southern United States. The story follows Celie, a young girl who begins writing letters to God after her father's abuse. She is forced into a marriage with Mr. Johnson after her father impregnates her twice, presumably killing both children. Celie continues living a life of obedience when she is exposed to Sofia's defiance of Mr. Johnson and his son's attempts to submit her. This results in Sofia moving out and taking her children with her. Meanwhile, Celie grows close to her husband's ill mistress, becoming confused over her feelings for the woman. The story progresses with Celie learning the truth about herself and her troubled past.

Teacher Guide
Our resource has been created for ease of use by both TEACHERS and STUDENTS alike.
Introduction
Our literature kit is designed to give the teacher a number of helpful ways of making the study of this novel a more enjoyable and profitable experience for the students. Our guide features a number of useful and flexible components, from which the teacher can choose. It is not expected that all of the activities will be completed.
One advantage to this approach to the study of a novel is that the student can work at his or her own speed, and the teacher can assign activities that match the student’s abilities.
Our literature kit divides the novel by letters and features reading comprehension and vocabulary questions. Themes include social prejudices, female relationships, female voice, racism, sexism, and gender roles. The Color Purple provides a wealth of opportunity for classroom discussion because
