About this ebook

Charlotte lives next door to a man of sin. Nearly every day she watches a new woman leave his house, looking satisfied. Bryan makes her nervous though. She doesn’t know what to say to him when he does talk.

Bryan is curious about his mousy little neighbor. He likes to watch her blush but that’s it. She was the kind of woman to demand exclusivity and that’s one thing he doesn’t do. However, one night while on a date, he discovers a side to Charlotte she didn’t even know.

It’s not long before the only woman he can think about is Charlotte. Their affair at first remains between them but it’s not long before Bryan needs more, he wants all of her.

Can Charlotte give in to her wicked neighbor’s demands? Is there any way to trust him? Can two unlikely people find love?

    Chapter One

Charlotte Harris made her way back from grabbing the mail to pause when she saw the sixth blonde of the week leaving her neighbor’s house. She couldn’t look anywhere but at him. His hand was in the blonde’s hair as the other gripped her ass tightly. Charlotte heard the moans from the few feet she was away from him. Heat bloomed in her cheeks as she took in the way he held onto the woman. He wasn’t wearing a shirt, showing off the array of ink she saw every time he mowed the lawn.

Bryan Webb, her wicked neighbor with the revolving front door. She couldn’t believe how many different women went in and out of his house every day of the week. He could be mistaken for a porn star with how many women he fucked.

Stop it. Stop thinking about everything he’s getting and you’re not.

She stared down at the letters in her hand, seeing nothing of any importance.

How are you doing, neighbor? Bryan asked, drawing her attention back to him. The blonde was climbing into her car, already moving on.

    Erm, I’m fine. You?

I can’t complain with life. He raised his arms out showing off the expanse of muscles.

Charlotte nodded. Great. She had nothing else to say to him. This was how it always was with her, tongue-tied, and she wasn’t even attracted to him. Okay, he was a good looking man, hot, sexy, but he wouldn’t even look twice at her. He was into blondes, and she was a brunette with brown eyes, bad fashion sense, and nothing else going for her.

    He still hadn’t moved.

I’m going to go inside, she said, pointing at her home. She stared at the ground before looking into his startling blue eyes. Licking her lips she did her best to smile, knowing in her heart she failed miserably. Bye.

Have a nice day. If it’s okay with you, I’m going to mow the lawn today.

That’s fine. I’ll get you, erm, some iced tea or lemonade if you want?

    Sounds good to me.

She nodded, making her escape quickly into her home. Talking with Bryan was a lot harder than she imagined. They’d been neighbors now for over a year, and she still struggled to look him in the eye. His dominating presence always had her on edge, and mixed with the new lady friend every day, she felt out of place.

Glancing out the window she saw he was looking at her house with a frown. Charlotte quickly moved away from the window, not wanting to gain any attention herself. The neighborhood was a good one, which was why she liked living there. She worked online designing websites and book covers for several publishing houses. Her income was modest, but she paid for the house out of her inheritance from her grandparents. It was a street filled with older people or families with young children. She and Bryan were the odd ones out in the street. Charlotte really didn’t know why Bryan even lived in such a quiet part of the world. Nothing actually happened other than the occasional ball to the window, which parents always paid for. She’d never experienced anything bad during her time there.

Charlotte didn’t even know when she’d started paying attention to Bryan’s private life.

Maybe because you don’t have one.

She’d left college and a bad relationship behind. There was a time when she used to be outgoing, happy with life. Now, she was just happy to be at home with her computer and her own company. So much had been lost to her over the years. At twenty-five she shouldn’t be confined to her home. She doubted she’d ever grace Bryan’s doorstep and do the walk of shame, but she should at least be dating.

Okay, so she wasn’t alone. She did have friends. Her friends just happened to be her happily married neighbors. Susan and Michael Lewis, who lived to her right while Bryan lived on her left, were her friends. She had babysat for them several times, so their marriage remained strong and they got time to themselves.

Walking into her kitchen, she placed the mail onto the counter before filling up her kettle for some coffee. She had a long day ahead of her in her office, and she was already on edge from the brief encounter with her neighbor.

The sound of her backdoor opening had her jumping to see Susan herself coming in.

I brought you some pumpkin rolls, she said, looking happy with a spring in her step.

Why have you brought me pumpkin rolls?

Over the last two years she’d been the one to take baked goods next door, not the other way around.

Well, I’ve got a favor to ask.

And here I was hoping that you were just happy to see me. Charlotte took the wrapped package, inhaling the wonderful warm scent. They’re freshly made as well. What do you want?

Well, Michael’s business partner is flying in from London on Friday, and we’re thinking of going out to drinks.

    So?

You’re free and he’s free. You’re both single—

I’m not going on a double date.

Please, Charlotte. If you don’t go he’ll bring one of his plastic dolls, and all she does is laugh and comment on the latest diet she’s on. Susan pouted. Look at me—I can’t stick to a diet to save my life.

Michael loves you. You’re not using me because you’re worried he’s going to look elsewhere. I’ve seen the way he looks at you, Susan. He’s devoted and loves you so much.

Susan rolled her eyes. Okay, fine, please come because Daniel really wants you to be there.

    Daniel?

Don’t you remember him? He was at that barbeque a couple of months back. You talked about heading up a new website for the company?

Charlotte vaguely remembered him. Daniel was like Bryan, a total player and not someone she wanted to be dating.

I don’t know, Susan. I’m really not the dating kind, and Daniel, he really is. She hated double dating. Two people thrown together for their friends’ sakes didn’t make for the ideal date to her.

Come on, Daniel is amazing. He likes you, and he asked if you were going to be there. Please, Charlotte. I’ll owe you.

She frowned and hated turning her friends down. Fine, I’ll go.

    Excellent. This Friday, dress sexy.

    I don’t own anything sexy.

You do. You just refuse to wear it. So, how’s the hot neighbor? Susan asked, walking toward the window overlooking the front garden.

    He’s fine. I think.

They both agreed he was hot, just not for either of them. Susan was happy with her man Michael while Charlotte was happy to be alone.

    You think?

    He’s doing the lawn soon.

I saw you talking to him from my house.

That’s all he said, he was doing the lawn.

    Really?

He was groping another blonde. There’s nothing else going on. Do you think we’re friends?

Well, you’re neighbors and you talk to him.

A casual greeting is not really talking to him. I talk to you and Michael more than I talk to Bryan.

Damn, you’re living next door to a fine piece of ass and I’m struggling to get you to go on a date. It’s pitiful.

    I like working.

Honey, there’s more to life than working. I should know. I’m a married woman with kids.

Charlotte laughed. There’s nothing more important to you, but I’m happy with my life, really, I am. She didn’t need men or anything else to have a complete life.

You’re seriously in denial. How do you handle your needs?

The sad truth was she didn’t have any needs. No, she didn’t touch or play with herself. She’d tried only to find herself embarrassed by her complete lack of enjoyment.

I take care of them. The lie fell easily from her lips. She didn’t need or want anyone in her life. At least, that’s what she told herself regularly.

    ****

You can come if you’d like, Michael said. Bring a date.

Daniel’s bringing a date? Bryan asked, uncapping his soda as he stared at the married man opposite. He liked Michael and Susan. They were a lovely couple,
