Reviews for Professional PHP Design Patterns

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Having recently worked my way through Matt Zandstra's fantastic (but challenging) "PHP Objects, Patterns and Practice", I needed a more in depth discussion of design patterns and how they apply to the PHP environment. I snapped up this book as soon as it was released, and it's one of the best buys re:coding I've bought so far. Devoid of cruft, to the point and utilising simple, legible application code to illustrate the pattern context(as opposed to the typically irrelevant or hardcore examples pattern authors seem to favour) this book removes some of the unnecessary arcane trappings of design patterns. After the initial chapters, the core of the book comprises several chapters, each dedicated to a pattern. These chapters provide a simple scenario ideal for pattern deployment, a UML diagram and some simple code to demonstrate it's usage. The final chapters put this to work in a detailed and thorough exploration and development of an application, which in itself is a great reference for project development methodology.I heartily recommend this book as a simple reference for those of you who need to "get" design patterns and put them to work.
