About this ebook
When an alien invasion threatens the existence of all the knowledge in the universe, eighteen-year-old Johanna Charette and seventeen-year-old Jackson Roth must rely on their wits, guts, and pluck to save the fantasy-come-to-life world of the Library of Illumination.
It wouldn’t be so bad—all right, it is bad but it would hurt less—if Johanna and Jackson weren’t the ones responsible for breaching the portals to a dozen distant worlds. Now, outside forces are causing shock waves in the space-time continuum, and if that isn’t awful enough, someone from another dimension is trying to steal a book of powerful spells created by a very famous wizard.
At first, traveling to other realms in a time machine seems like a fun perk. However, discovering some inhabitants want to obliterate the teens doesn’t leave them with a warm, fuzzy feeling. Instead, they find themselves forced to sacrifice their own welfare and the safety of their loved ones for the greater good.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A library where an open book can come to life and illuminate your imagination, who wouldn't love that! Johanna is stuck in a dead-end job, the only good thing is that she gets to work with books. When she is asked to make a special delivery to the strange Library of Illumination, she sees way more than she bargains for. Since Johanna seems to be the only one to gain entrance to the Library, she gets more deliveries to the library and gets to know the curator, Mal. Mal trains Johanna to take care of the abundance of books and all the wonders that they contain. As Johanna gains confidence as the new curator and begins to work with curator-in-training, Jackson, she will find plenty of adventure within the books themselves as well as the magical library.I absolutely loved the concept of The Library of Illumination! Who wouldn't want a chance to see some of their favorite scenes from books spring to life? Or have a chat with some famous (or infamous) people and characters? Johanna's character is intelligent, loyal and most of all, a lover of books. For a woman of eighteen, her character is very mature and shows great problem solving skills whenever she or Jackson gets into a bind. I'm on the fence a bit about Johanna and Jackson's romance right now, it seems a little forced, but it might grow on me. The adventures that can take place in the Library of Illumination are limitless, Cassanova was my favorite and I wish he could have stayed in the Library longer, despite his womanizing ways. I also loved the ideas of the portals, eleven more Libraries of Illumination in different realms. I wish they all could have been explored.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5***I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review***Pack’s Second Chronicles of Illumination is, as the name suggests, the second book in the series. However, it is readable as a stand-alone, as there’s enough recap to give a good grounding. I found the concept of various realms connected via portals quite nifty, and the descriptions wonderful.. Some of the realms are Dramatis, Terroria, Fantasia, and Lamina. The main characters, Johanna and Jackson who work in one of the portal libraries, travel amongst the realms, having adventures. This pair complement one another nicely, balancing flaws and strengths. Pack’s writing is imaginative. The stories are easy to get into. I did need to put myself in the mindset of looking at the stories, or Books, as serials, so there wasn't the expectation of full resolution to things. That's the biggest caution I offer, and it is not a bad thing if you are expecting it, which you should be given the very first words. It certainly makes the next set something to look forward to! If you enjoy dimension-travelling, and meeting all kinds of beings in true fantasy fashion,be sure to check out C A Pack’s Second Chronicles of Illumination, and it's predecessor!
