My real name is Donna Grace Sagun Casorla. I was born on September 14, 1992. I started my passion in writing when I began reading the books of Sarah Beth Martin, the author of "One True Ocean", and Claudia Mair Burney, the author of "Exorsistah" and "X Returns". At first, I just started imagining things the way I want them to happen, then I realized that writing and documenting those thoughts I have would be better than simply imagining them and letting them disappear. Thus, I'm making all things I want to happen be written in books and be known by other people. "The Rift" is the first ever novel I have written successfully and completely. I started making it way back 2011 and I have just finished it this year 2014. Right now, I'm working on its second part. I am looking forward of having my books be shared with everyone. Thank you and God bless.

Prologue
Today is the day that we need to say goodbye to our brother, Johnny Smith. He’s now on his journey to our Father’s Kingdom in heaven. May his soul rest in peace.
The priest from Lawrence, Indiana said as he blesses the body and soul of Johnny Smith in front of all those people crying for his death.
Everybody said Amen whenever the priest mentioned the words May his soul rest in peace.
On the other end of the cemetery, Maria Clark stood with Kneltone Smith, the dead man’s brother who came to Indiana for the funeral of his brother.
Kneltone left Indiana when he finished college and found himself living his dreams in Los Angeles, California. He lived there with his new family. But, the story did not revolve on Kneltone Smith nor Johnny Smith but to Candace Clark, daughter of Maria Clark, granddaughter of Nash and Kneltone Smith.
Chapter One
Meeting the Strangers
Candace, do you want to go home nor or stay here a little longer?
Krystel asked Candace as they go out of the classroom.
They often stay for couple of hours in the university park they called Paseo, before going home. She lived in a dormitory near the university and it made her dislike the fact that she’s alone. Other people on her age would love being away from their family especially from their monster moms who would watch every single movement and activities they do, but not Candace Clark. She loves her mom more than anyone else on Earth and she never wanted to be away with her. Thus, instead of going back to her dormitory, a place where she lived like a prisoner without anybody else to talk to, she and her friends preferred on staying in the Paseo Park talking about everything they will notice about other people and memories they can remember. Candace’s friends also accompany her to eat dinner before they leave. She hates eating alone. She’d rather starve herself than eat alone.
That’s her life every day. Go to classes early in the morning, stay inside the university until late at night with her friends, go home, sleep, then wake up and go to school again. It’s her daily routine. She studied in the University of California in Los Angeles, away from her family in Indiana. She was accepted in a scholarship so she needed to take advantage of it to finish her studies and accept the fact that she has no mom who will wake her up every morning and will prepare breakfast for her.
However, on the 11th day of March 2011, after Krystel asked her if she’ll stay in the Paseo or not, everything in her life has changed. It started to change after she received a text message from a sender she never knew before.
Hi Candace. This is Sabrina Cervenka. I am Kneltone Smith’s daughter. My dad met your mom, Maria Clark, during Uncle Johnny’s funeral in Indiana. I know this may sound unbelievable to you but if you have time, please come and visit us.
Candace wondered who Ms. Cervenka was but she heard about her Grandfather Johnny’s funeral a couple of weeks ago from Maria. Without knowing why, Candace replied.
Yeah, sure. I’m free today. I can come and visit.
What? You don’t even know her.
Krystel became worried about Candace.
But she knows my mom. She knows my grandfather. Basically, that means that she’s my mom’s first cousin. Besides, I’m too bored. I don’t want to go back in the dormitory yet. I’m sick of staying here in the Paseo. I don’t like seeing same faces everyday and talking about same people. I hate it. I hate my life for being so boring like this. I just want to go somewhere else, and meet new people.
Fine. It’s up to you. Be careful then. I know you’re not good with interacting with other people so I’m not sure if meeting them would be a good thing.
It is true that Candace hated being with strangers. She’s often quiet at first, but that’s because she is observing people.
I’ll pick you up at Townsell Mall.
Ms. Cervenka replied which made Candace feel a little nervous as she left UCLA to meet the stranger. When she reached the entrance door of Townsell Mall, she couldn’t help but look around from time to time. She wanted to back out. She wanted to leave instead because it was making her too anxious to continue. She kept telling herself that it might be a scam.
Where are you at? I’m wearing my school uniform.
She told Ms. Cervenka as she continued to wait at the entrance of the mall. After a few minutes, she felt a hand touching her back and when she looked around, she saw a woman, taller than her in about 3-4 centimeters, wearing an orange shirt and white pants with a wide smile on her face. The woman even kissed her on the cheeks and embraced her as if she was her own daughter.
In surprise, Candace raised both her brows.
Hi. I’m pleased to finally meet you. I’m Sabrina Cervenka.
the woman said joyfully as she handed her hand to formally meet Candace.
Candace Clark.
the young girl said in a very cold but pleasant voice.
Let’s go?
asked the woman.
Where?
In our house. It’s your Uncle William’s birthday. Everyone would be pleased to meet you, honey.
the woman, or rather Ms. Cervenka, whispered without removing the smile painted on her face.
Honey? Candace repeated to herself. She paused for a moment
