Mr. Darryl Burton was the finest specimen of man I had laid my eyes on in years. He was in his forties, fade haircut, caramel brown, and 6’5 with kissable lips. Darryl was well groomed, established, respected, and sexy. That was the reason that I was the most hated woman in our office. I worked with the sexiest man in the building, and that made me the envy of every woman on the job. I wasn’t a slouch my damn self. At 35 I was a built like a brick house with hips, legs that went for days, long hair, and chestnut smooth skin. According to the latest office gossip, I was rumored to be servicing Darryl every evening after work. However, that was far from the truth. I had been watching Darryl around the office for the past five years since I was first hired to be his administrative assistant. We had spent many long evenings together reviewing proposals, typing up memos, and sending out important e-mails. The truth of the matter was that I wanted Mr. Burton from the first time I laid eyes on him. However, I didn’t date married men. So I vowed that no matter how often we ‘accidentally’ bumped into one another that I would never cross the invisible line drawn in the sand by his wife, Delia Burton. My momma didn’t raise no fool and I knew that I would never mess with a married man. The idea that a married man would leave their wife was nothing more than an urban legend created by a group of desperate women at some point in time. The fact was that married men NEVER leave their wives….

I dated men from time to time, but none of them ever measured up to Darryl. I was more than attracted to Darryl. However, I decided to push my feelings for Darryl to the side to make work easier, but that didn’t stop my mind from fantasizing about him on the drive home, at work, the grocery store, and even at church. My fantasy with Darryl wasn’t based on some puppy love or lust. I spent a considerable amount of time with Darryl and I got to know him as a caring person. He never cheated on his wife. No matter how many advances he received from women in the office, and believe me there were plenty. Darryl never gave in to any of those women. I answered the phones and in five years I never took a call from a woman that I didn’t know. He never took ‘meetings’ outside of the office with men or women, and he called his wife at least three times a day. He never missed an anniversary, birthday, or special occasion with his wife. I know because he had me help him find gifts for his wife that she would enjoy. In short, Darryl was the kind of man that most women would want to
