Tim Baer

After wasting close to 30 years of his life on Wicca and a life of paganism, Tim, now in his 50s, came to know Messiah in 1998. Since then, he has done as much as possible to make up for those wasted years. A disabled US Navy Desert Storm veteran, he lives in Texas with his wife of 30+ years plus a pack of critters. When he is not at work, or at home busy pounding out more Sci-Fi on his laptop, his time is taken up serving his cats, the LORD, his wife and his dogs--not quite in that order (but don't tell the cats).

Thanks to my wife for once more putting up with me as I sat on the sofa, short tempered, slack jawed, and very much in need of a thorough dusting.

    Introduction

I am honored to write an introduction for Tim’s latest and greatest treasury of short stories, Will Write SciFi for Food, III, also known as WWSFFF3.

As an avid reader, there was a time when I thought I could be a writer; maybe you have, too. But it takes a commitment to your craft to actually follow through and put the work in to what is necessary to be a writer. Tim has that work ethic. While I’m not sure if he has ever had writer’s block, I know that this road he is on is not effortless, even though it may appear to be while you are reading his stories.

To go back a few years, I was fortunate to become friends with Tim’s wife, Kath, in my early days on Facebook due to a shared love for crocheting. It was not long after our meeting that I met her husband, Tim, on Facebook, enjoying his sarcastic, funny, and witty comments. We discovered early on that we were both science fiction, dictionary, and grammar fanatics!

And then it happened! Tim was trying to get a story published online, and I offered to help with proofreading and some editing. That was five years ago. Since then I have proofread all of his writings. What a journey this has been!

Tim was always a creative and witty writer, but his most recent stories have become more complex and smooth flowing. I think that the actual publishing of his stories has given him the confidence that his writing is good. But he is better than good; he is becoming a great writer. With feedback from many readers, he has learned that people are enjoying his stories, that he really does have something to offer with his writing.

His attention to detail is remarkable, and his research is extensive. I know, because as a novice to steampunk, I questioned several things in his full length novel, Sherpa Holmes, that I was certain could not have been true in the timeline in which he was writing. But I was wrong. Google assured me they were all accurate.

Tim has been testing his writing wings on different genres, broadening his repertoire. Some of these are science fiction, steampunk, and fantasy, among others. Many of his writings are comical and some are serious. But as one of his biggest fans, let me assure you that they are all fantastic!

Out of all of Tim’s published works, my favorite is included in this collection: Quantum Singularities. The writing is fast-paced, fun, and exceptionally creative. In fact, I felt that I was transported through time and space along with the characters.

Tim loves what he does! That much is obvious. Join the ride on Tim’s latest merry-go-round of stories in Will Write SciFi for Food, III. Which one will be your favorite?

And if you haven’t already read Tim’s previous stories, go back and read his other collections, WWSFFF, WWSFFF Too, and his short stories, Toys in the Attic, and Things That Go Bump in the Night. Also don’t forget to read his first full-length novel, the steampunk story, Sherpa Holmes. I am certain it is the first of many for this talented and witty writer, my friend – Tim Baer!

    Sympathy for the Devil

Alex felt the rumbling of the truck long before he heard it entering his subdivision. It began as rings forming in his cup of coffee. Another one of those filthy, noisy concrete trucks was charging in, oblivious to the laws of the Homeowners' Association and the city.

It was bad enough that they were ignoring the NO TRUCKS signs he had petitioned the city to post on the roads leading to his neighborhood. "Local delivery! Exempt!" the drivers would yell at him when he stood by the signs, waving his arms and screaming as he pointed them out.

The worst part was the trucks dumping their leftover concrete on the side of the alleys behind the new houses. It was creating an eyesore, and quite frankly, he was sick of it.

His coffee sloshed all over his kitchen table as he shoved his chair back in anger. Stomping over to the island in the kitchen, he yanked the middle drawer open so far that it fell on the floor with a crash.

Muttering a profanity, he stooped over to pick up his digital camera, moaning in pain as he straightened. I'll catch those bums in the act of their illegal dumping this time, he said. See if I don't!

He grabbed his truck keys and American Atheists hat off the nails by the door and raced out to his pickup.

    He drove slowly behind the
