About this ebook

Scarlett is a young up and coming journalist that sees a chance to get ahead and decides to take it. It will change who she is, how she has seen the world so far and will test her strength of character. A gang named Road Warriors has been the subject of many investigations by the press and the police, but no one could find anything that would stick. She will go undercover with very little experience, meeting the leader named Deacon, who seems shady, but something more lies underneath. He likes his leather, his ride and his cigar in that order. Is he as bad as everyone is making him out to be or does he have a heart underneath that cold exterior?

    CHAPTER 1

Scandal had no idea why she had reacted with such venom, but now she was looking into the eyes of Fran, as she was bleeding from the knife wound that she had just inflicted on her. They were both looking at each other, not believing for a second that either one of them could do something so heinous. The look of surprise was evident on Fran’s face, as she was still dripping wet with a towel draped around her waist. That girl had now been subjected to the blade that she had in her hand. Scandal had no idea that she could do something like this, nor did she want to think that she was capable of something that could kill another human being.

I… I came home because… I missed you…what is this all about. Fran was surprised to see her friend Scarlett, but this didn’t look like the Scarlett that she remembered. Everything about her screamed a woman that was not someone that was going to bow down and take what life had to offer. This woman that was standing in front of her was taking no prisoners and it didn’t matter if it was her best friend or not.

As she fell forward, Scandal grabbed her and prevented her from smashing into the floor. She couldn’t believe that this had happened, but now she was going to have to deal with the consequences, whether she wanted to or not. It would probably be a good idea that she called the police, but then she realized that it would look like she had attacked her with malice and forethought. The blade was a foregone conclusion that she was a threat to society. They would see this as an opportunity to put her behind bars where she belonged. They would want to make an example out of her to the rest of the road warriors and wouldn’t mind railroading her into some kind of confession.

I can’t call for the police on ambulance, so I’m going to have to take care of you myself. She knew that there was a first aid kit in the house somewhere, but she had no idea where Fran would keep such a thing. It might be a good idea to have that on hand in the bathroom, in case you cut yourself shaving or falling in the bathtub.

The first thing she had to do was find a room someplace where she could work and then she saw the guest room as a makeshift hospital all its own. It had a bed and she had spent a few nights on it to know that it was comfortable. It was just like Fran to make amends for her friends, even if this friend had caused her such harm.

I don’t know how I’m going to stop the bleeding, but maybe some kind of clotting agent or alcohol will do the trick. Talking to herself wasn’t something that she was used to, but this was all part of her new persona. What she was now was anything but Scarlett, but still underneath the tough and ready exterior was the woman that Fran had befriended a long time ago. She could no longer shirk away from her duty to her friend, than she could walk away from her career when it was already in danger of going up in smoke.

Fran went through the bathroom with a fine tooth comb, finally finding a first aid kit and the medicine cabinet. It was unusual and didn’t even look like a medicine cabinet and it took her a moment to realize that the mirror could be opened. It was vast inside, a compartment within the wall with many chemicals and other assorted women things that you would find on a normal day.

She gathered up everything that she needed, went back into the room to see that Fran was now unconscious and had turned this ghostly shade of white. Thinking quickly, she began to take off that towel, which was barely hanging there in the first place. It was already soaked through, but the cloth was heavy enough that it was being used as a makeshift bandage. She had to peel it away very slowly, making sure that she wasn’t going to do any more harm than she already did.

There was a small bottle of antiseptic alcohol, which she used to cleanse the wound, seeing that it was quite deep, but it didn’t seem to cut into any vital organs.

    She watched the blood
