The Independence Movement in India was one of the greatest movements in the history of mankind. Thousands of revolutionaries sacrificed their lives and millions struggled for decades.
Generally, leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Patel, Lajpat Rai, and many more prominent leaders from the Congress Party of the time had spent several years in prisons while continuing their struggle for freedom, but there were some others who believed in stern measures and immediate actions.
Bhagat Singh was one of the greatest freedom fighters who happily embraced death and became a martyr for the sake of his love for his motherland, however, nothing much is said or heard about this great freedom fighter and revolutionary in India. It seems that this great warrior has just become a name to be remembered once in a year to mark his birthday.
He is often referred to as Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
He was born on 27th of September, 1907, at Chak No. 105, GB, Banga Village, Jaranwala Tehsil in the Lyallpur District of the Punjab Province of British India.
Shaheed
means martyr
in several South Asian and Middle Eastern languages.
This great Indian socialist is often considered to be one of the most influential revolutionaries of the Indian Independence Movement. Bhagat Singh was born in a devout Sikh family. His elders were already active in revolutionary activities against the British Raj.
Right from his young age, Bhagat Singh was an avid reader. During his teens he was greatly inspired by the books written on European revolutionary movements. He was also influenced by anarchist and Marxist ideologies.
In his youth, Bhagat Singh was involved in several revolutionary organizations. He was a very active and hard working person, so he quickly rose through the ranks of the Hindustan Republican Association. In a very short period, he became one of the main leaders of the Hindustan Republican Association. Eventually, this organization became the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association.
When Lala Lajpat Rai died after he was hit with a cane by the police, Bhagat
