- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Victoria longs for a different life. Then her wish on a mysterious coin transports her back in time, into the body of a ruthless young woman accused of murdering her husband... Despite the perils of her new identity, Victoria discovers a new sense of belonging and adventure in the other woman's world, especially when a handsome man captures her attention. But can borrowed love last for a lifetime? And how long will Victoria's wish last?An interesting take on time travel, this story adds the twist of a switch. I troika is a miserable young woman, locked inside herself for reasons unknown to most. Even her husband can't figure her out. On the surface it appears she has it all, drop-dead looks, wealth, a easy but productive career, and the storybook marriage. Sadly that is just the face the rest of the world sees. Even Ryan, Victoria's husband can't put his finger on the problem. Nor can Victoria. She simply knows it's there. Which is what she longs for a different life. She wants someone to live her for who she is, not what she looks like, nor who her family is. Just love her for the woman inside all those constrictive trappings.Over one hundred years earlier Katherine is longing for her own escape. Ever since the event that destroyed her she has never been the same. In fact things weren't too good before that event, but everything changed in one moment. She too wants out from her life.Easy to read the book bounces between the two women's lives in large sections, so it makes it fairly simple to keep track of the individual events. Both women end up getting their wishes, though not as expected, or even imagined. Now it's up to them to figure out how to live each other's lives, and hopefully fix them both. But do they have time? Or is this switch a permanent arrangement, leaving them stranded in the other's world? We'll all have to wait for the second book in the trilogy Borrowed Promises to find out.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I find Judith Ingram's style of writing very easy to read and this is setting the scene for the series so while I felt there was a lot of lead up to to the actual time travel, in hindsight it's all needed so that we can understand both Victoria and Katherine and the worlds they lived in.At first I wasn't sure what I thought about this book - the main character, Victoria, wasn't particularly likeable. But I found myself more and more absorbed in the story (while feeling kind of sorry for Ryan - the husband) and I found myself hanging out to read the next book. Once Victoria transferred back in time I think she became more confident and more likeable. A really good book in the end.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The story of two very different women who long to be someone else. Victoria is from a rich family who use her. She has an abusive past and struggles to deal with it. When she and her husband go on a trip, Victoria learns about a woman called Katherine from the eighteen hundreds who never fit into her life and was accused of killing her husband. After an accident, Victoria is thrown into the past to Katherine's body, while Katherine takes her place. Can the two women find happiness? This was a well written tale that set up the story nicely for Victoria's trip to the past and we learn a lot about these two women and what they have been through. I would recommend this book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Victoria is a beautiful, modern-day model married to a handsome architect, yet she is insecure and sexually inhibited. Katherine is a misunderstood heiress who lived a century earlier. A magic coin, along with a bit of time travel, unites their destinies. In this novel author Judith Ingram effectively blends elements of fantasy with tough issues such as neglectful parenting and sexual abuse. As the first book in a trilogy, the plot necessarily contains many loose ends, which will no doubt be resolved in the subsequent volumes.
