About this ebook
"When history proves useless and consensus chimerical," Donald Revell has written, "the poet's necessity is invention, and this does a lot to explain our century's preference for revision over mimesis." For Revell, The disruptions of this century have destroyed old illusions of historical continuity: "The consolations of history are furtive,/ then fugitive, then forgotten." Invoking such contemporary events as the collapse of communism and the end of the Cold War, he seeks to integrate the political with the personal in a search for new paradigms of value and honor.
Donald Revell

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Two stars is a bit harsh - but at this point in time I am not a huge fan!
I definitely will have to come back to this book later when I can dedicate more time to it, and have developed some more poetic background. As a largely un-poetically literate person I found his poetry (although nice sounding) very inaccessible (which apparently was kind of his point) and as a harried college student trying to juggle too many things, I didn't have extra time to research where he was coming from.
So yeah, better luck next time.
