- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Binky Under Pressure by Ashley Spires is written a story written in comic book format. He protects his human from "aliens" which are just pesky little bugs. I think that children would enjoy reading this series of books because it is fairly entertaining. I think kids could learn about jealousy and to not judge a book by its cover. Blinky the cat did not like Grace the Cat because she seemed to be much better than him. He automatically assumed she was the enemy, but in actuality she was not. Gracie turns out to be a good cat and they even become friends at the end.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5If you haven't been keeping up, I work at the children's department of the local library. One of the perks that's stapled to the job is getting to see the new book arrivals. Some of these are reminiscent of my childhood - I recently green dotted a copy of Horrible Harry and the Ant Invasion, which is actually packed somewhere in this house - and others just bring the child out of me. Enter Binky, space cat.
Binky and I only became acquainted recently. And if what Ashley Spires presents in Binky Under Pressure reflects anything in the other books, then I hope the department has the other books (I found out today that we have Binky the Space Cat, but not Binky to the Rescue - though that latter just might not be on the shelves as I didn't browse the card catalog).
Binky is a great space cat. He remembers his exploration into outer space fondly. And while space was fun, he couldn't imagine leaving his humans. Still, he protects his space station from the alien invaders that attempt break in.
Enter a new invader: Gracie. Another cat moving into Binky's territory, eating his food, stealing HIS best friend! Binky. Must. Bring. It. But Gracie isn't all that she appears - is she a friend or foe?
It's a fun read. I'm even sure your kids will love it. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Binky has competition. Love that Binky!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Reason for Reading: Next in the series.I'm not exactly what one could call a "pet person" but Binky is just about the most adorable cat creation ever. His adventures would be down right hilarious if he just weren't so serious about himself. Spires perfectly captures the attitude and idiosyncrasies of house cats everywhere in Binky and we can understand why they have such 'tude when we realize what an important job they actually have protecting us humans from the aliens. Binky and Gracie are wonderful together as they interact and try to best each other. With an adorable story, Spires pulls it all together with her droll artwork that manages to convey such emotion within each small drawing of Binky. Binky is sure to capture the hearts of cat lovers of all ages!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I first read Binky the Space Cat with my son last year; we really really enjoyed it. So I was excited when I saw Binky Under Pressure sitting on the shelf in the library. It was another great Binky book.Binky is still a certified Space Cat but then Gracie shows up. Gracie is an adorable striped kitten and Binky is determined to expose her flaws to the family. During his investigation he finds out a shocking truth about Gracie and all of Binky’s Space Cat skills are tested. This is an absolutely hilarious and adorable book, suitable to all ages. Binky is funny, witty, a bit accident prone and super cute. My five year old loves this series of books and I love reading them with him.As with all of these books there is a bit of a message/learning here. Binky learns not to judge a book by its cover and to cope with feelings of jealousy. He also learns how teamwork can save the day.Overall another great Binky book. Highly recommended for kids and parents who love to read with their kids. This is a funny, cute, and very well done book. If you love graphic novels this is one of those great ones that parents and kids will equally enjoy.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This was a very cute story about finding friends under unusual circumstances. Binky believes he is a space cat who must protect his human family from aliens ( bugs!). When a new cat comes to live with them, Binky is very suspicious. Maybe she is an alien sent to take over his space station. This is a graphic novel that will appeal to many reluctant readers.
