Loula is leaving for Africa is a sweet tale about a little girl who is just fed up with her triplet siblings. She wants to go far far away and leave it all behind and her family kind of waves her off. Loula takes her favorite things and heads off to "Africa". The butler finds her and says he will take her there. In reality he takes her around the city and uses imagination to make the city become Africa and give her the comfort or getting far far away. The imagination comparisons helps children see things in a different way and compare and contrast. In the book the sandbox is the desert, the girls on monkey bars are chimpanzees, and a paddle boat on the lake is the ocean. The end of the book brings comfort to young readers that home is actually never far away and they can always return. Maybe even in a way children can learn to cope and "escape" in their own world and always return home.

This book was cute, it was about a girl named Loula who had triplet brothers and they were always bothering her. So, she wanted to get away from them forever. She had decided to take a trip to Africa, and before she went she told her parents where she was going. They didn’t seem to believe her or seem bothered by her telling them this because they knew nothing was really going to happening. Loula took their no response as that no one in her family cared for her. When she was finally walking to Africa, Gilbert who was the family’s chauffeur said he would take her to Africa himself rather than her walk. They ended up at the park, where they both imagined they had arrived in Africa. I thought that it was really sweet of Gilbert to hangout with Loula and help her calm down because of her annoying three little brothers. This would be a good book to read to students because it could teach that just because someone or something is annoying you does not mean you have to go away forever (especially if it is your brother or sisters!). This book allows children to see that all you have to do is take some time for yourself to regroup.
