About this ebook

Green, The Other Monster, speaks, of course, of jealousy, that green-eyed monster that can afflict even the best of relationships. Even the most secure person can misinterpret an innocent glance, a word, a call, and bring forth emotions of envy, resentment, suspicion, and distrust. Feelings, misplaced or not, that can destroy even the strongest relationship.
As in its companion volume, Red, Lust is a Monster, these poems speak to the human condition, to the heart’s longings: dark and deep, bright and open, and, sometimes, to bitterness and soft hatred. Such feelings convey the basic human emotions and experience of love and loss, life and lust, in such a way that even sorrow, grief, and despair can sometimes be felt as an ecstatic experience.

Green - The Other Monster - James Sawers

    Green

    Green...

    With just a hint

    Of jealousy...

    A misplaced look

    An innocent glance

    Even a lost expression

    And, of course, I am

    Thinking of someone else

    Someone besides you

    I just can’t get it

    Into your mind that

    All I want is you

    This green-eyed monster

    Is destroying us -

    Green is not your color!

    Empty Abandoned Bed

    All that remains now

    Is an empty

    Abandoned bed

    You are gone

    Long gone

    Yet, still I miss you

    The bed misses you

    The sheets long to

    Wrap around you

    One more time

    As I do

    Only one head rests

    On the pillow

    Yet, your scent lingers

    And lingers…

    Outside the window

    The moon rises

    Bright with false promise

    I raise my hand

    Feeling the moonlight

    Following its path

    To where you are

    A Heart Never Forgets

    Even though

    I have photos, videos

    Of me and you

    And memories

    My memories tend

    To get less sharp

    And clear with time

    The photos less real

    And substantial

    Still, a heart never forgets

    Though my heart breaks

    Each time I think

    Of you gone

    These many years

    This is preferably

    To a disappeared life

    And no memory

    Of you at all

    Another Scar

    The layers

    Add up

    Another scar

    Is added

    To all the others

    Deep within

    My soul

    A round ball

    Of scar tissue, where

    Even tears can’t reach

    A Thousand
