You see in the world what you carry in your heart. Goethe

Kay Malone woke up in darkness feeling like two different people and slipped from the satin sheets holding her in bed. She put her feet on the lush carpet and waited briefly to see if the man beside her was still asleep. He continued to breathe deeply at the same pace, so she fished into his pants in their bundle of clothes and removed his phone. With her heart racing, she walked through the shadows of the hotel room, naked and unable to hide what she was doing if the necessity arrived.
She closed the bathroom door and switched on the vanity lights over the marble sink before scanning his call log and texts for information about his contacts. Kay glanced in the mirror, which barely reflected her perfection above her shoulders due to her small stature and the raised position of the glass. Her heart sank when she saw that one of her colored lenses had fallen out.

She was going to have to search for it the following morning when he took a shower, but until then, she removed the unnatural lens and knew that he was too self-involved to notice.

he said through stinging lips and a mouthful of metallic blood.
Why are you dressed like that anyway?
said the large man with a laugh. He bellowed with a ripple across his heavy gut, even if most of his girth was solid muscle.
On the infinite scale, only you can hurt yourself,
Sullivan noted.
"Then let’s be glad for the
