- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A cute collection of holiday stories--I liked the premise, that a remote cabin could *magically* bring couples together. The three authors did a decent job with it, though interestingly enough, it was the author who I already knew and liked (Julie Kenner) whose story I felt was the weakest of the three. It wasn't bad, it just didn't seem as cohesive as the other two--for one thing, Cleo's turnaround seemed abrupt and without a real trigger for it...it just didn't seem clear what made her change her mind. It was interesting that in the first and the last stories, it was the hero who seemed more sure of what he wanted and the heroine who needed convincing and was determined to have more of a "no strings" relationship for much of the story--interesting twist. The progression of the cabin through the holiday season (Thanksgiving for the first story, then Christmas, and finally New Year's) made the cabin the focus of the anthology more than the holidays. A nice, fluffy read to curl up with on the couch...unless, of course, you have a hot tub :-)
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/54 Stars/Fiction; Romance AnthologyI enjoyed each of these three novellas that were centered around a little cabin with its 'magic' ability to either spark or rekindle love between its guests. The first story The Thanksgiving Fix by Vicki Lewis Thompson is about two people who are happy being single and tired of others trying to intervene on their behalf. When Beth and Mac end up staying at the same cabin over the holiday weekend, will they both still be able to hang on to their beliefs about remaining single? *a steamy and sexy 4 starsThe second story The Christmas Set-Up by Jill Shalvis brings together Zoe and Jason. Co-workers at an architectural firm, they are both working on a design that could land them the next big promotion. Seeking solace to clear his head and focus, Jason heads to the cabin, but a little scheme by Jason's brother delivers a fuming mad Zoe to his door at the most inopportune time. Not wanting to leave Jason in a vulnerable state, Zoe spends the weekend at the cabin and soon the two of them are in a different kind of competition. *loved this story! 5 starsThe final story The New Years Deal by Julie Kenner was about Cleo and Jason. Parting ways when life and college meant different dreams for them, they promised to meet again in five years. With trepidation, they keep their promise to each other and end up at the little Tahoe cabin. Not sure what to expect, they question whether their love has withstood the hands of time. *This was my least favorite story in the book. I didn't care for Cleo's character as much as the others. 3 starsOverall, I liked this book. It is not without its flaws but I was able to overlook some of the smaller details and enjoy it for what it was. I liked the uniqueness of the setting.Recommended.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Reviewed by UrsulaReview copy provided by NetGalleyAll three of the stories are sweet and light hearted. I enjoyed all the stories, but I must admit, the first one was my favorite! The Thanksgiving Fix shows that the old adage is true, 'love will find you when you are least expecting it.' The story is a lovely, fast paced read that endears the characters to the reader! The Christmas Set Up infused just the right amount of humor in the story. Zoe shows up at the secluded cabin to rip into Jason, who she thinks stole her design from her. But when she gets there, she can't tear her eyes away from Jason's, er, well built body...as she walks in on him in the tub. Keeping her there, when all she wants to do is get far away,is just his first obstacle to finding true love. The New Year's Deal is my least favorite of all three, but it still rocks! So, safe to say, the whole anthology is well worth the time! This final installment to the book is a nice wrap up. It is the only one that makes you feel a little nervous that things won't work out between the two 'love birds'. I'd recommend this to anyone that likes a quick, easy read. There isn't any deep plots, confusing characters or cliff hangers...it's a sweet, romantic read that will leave you smiling when you're done reading.
