Starting in the twenty-third century, the human race began to immigrate to other planets for the available land. Lily Taylor, among the second generation of immigrants, was going to celebrate her tenth birthday with her family. Even with all the future technologies making their lives enjoyable, not only their parents, but also they needed to find themselves and their places in this new land.

Reviews for Besides Naturalization

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I received a review copy of this eBook from the author on the understanding that I gave it an honest review, and I'm very sorry to say that I did not enjoy it at all.Although Chloe evidently has a very clear idea of what her world is like and how all of the technology works, this does not come across the text. All of the futuristic gear in the novel is presented with little by way of a description of how any of it functions and nothing is ever really done to establish what Hynocripta is like (the novel indicates that it is a hostile world but we never see anything of it to understand why). The style of prose also makes the story very difficult to get in to as virtually every sentence is active, beginning with a character's name. The characters also show wildly inconsistent reactions to things such as turning pale when someone speaks to them for no apparent reason. Development of characters is also virtually non-existent. Lily's grandmother is horrible to her for no obvious reason, while the animosity towards her father is never really confronted or resolved in the story. Finally, I'm not really sure what kind of audience would appreciate this novel. I was under the impression that it was aimed at middle graders but the text is far to complex and unfriendly to someone of that reading age. I had to re-read some sections to be sure of what was going on and I'm an adult. All in all, I would not really recommend this book. Although the author had a couple of nice ideas, it really did feel that the story needed a good rewrite in order to focus it's plot and grant development to its shallow characters.
