After earning two graduate degrees, practicing law awhile, and then working for the public school system for over ten years, I finally got a clue. I tossed all that aside and started doing what I should have been doing all along, writing novels! In hindsight I could see the decision was a no-brainer.Because which sounds like more fun? Being a lawyer/special educator/reading specialist/educational diagnostician...or writing spicy romances?I'm fortunate to have two wonderful, absurdly precocious children and two delightful if occasionally disobedient mutts. My family and I are all Texas natives, and reside in unapologetic suburban bliss near Houston.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Short, silly and sweet despite the dominant versus submissive take on sex. I liked it.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5very interesting book. extremely well written, very tasteful and detailed. BDSM has never been a thing I thought I would like to read about, I mean I never even read 50 shades of grey but this book makes me want to actually try it out let alone only read about it. a must read
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I was really pleased with this book. I *heart* me a good nerd, throw in some BDSM and you've got a winner for me!
Ivan was amazingly socially inept. Brilliant in his work field but totally lost almost anywhere outside of that. Cami is a computer programmer in a housing complex of nerds. The only single woman and a caretaker of sorts for all of them. She's developed a serious case of lust for her neighbor Ivan and when he asks her to help him learn to socialize she takes him up on it. What ensues is a decidedly unique courtship.
I loved Cami, she was so spunky, open, adventurous and just like someone I'd be friends with. As a fan of The Big Bang Theory I also fell in love with Ivan, a sexier version of Sheldon Cooper, PhD. *grin*
The bedroom scenes are intense and passionate. I love the variant of "Sir" used in the bedroom as well.
It has a wonderful happily ever after where the hero and heroine don't change - they accept each other for exactly who they are. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Very charming, super hot erotic BDSM romance.
Camilla is a social anthropologist/computer programmer who lives in an apartment building near the local university, mostly populated by academics. They're all friends who hang out together a fair bit, but Camilla only has a crush one one of them: Ivan, the rocket scientist.
Ivan is a genius who understands lasers better than people. He has an extremely ordered life, every activity part of a routine, every minute scheduled. His routines are a coping device, basically, that allow him to navigate the world without freaking out or making a scene. But he's got a big fundraising dinner coming up, he's a post-doc at the university with an insecure position, and he needs to prove that he can be a rainmaker and win grant money if he wants to succeed in academia. So he enlists Camilla as a coach, teaching him the ways of cocktail party chatter and conversational pitching of his ideas.
Thus Camilla gets to spend time with this guy she's got a massive crush on. It's frustrating because he doesn't seem to notice her in a sexual way at all...until the dam breaks and we find out that he was holding back because his sexuality, too, is an ordered, strictly regulated thing. He's a dom and he's really only interested in BDSM sex.
I have to admit that this kind of BDSM "scene" stuff does not turn my crank. The ropes and the flogs and the getting a spanking if you say, "Yes," instead of "Yes, Professor," makes me roll my eyes a little, so it's a testament to Delphine Dryden's talent that I nonetheless found the novel scorching hot.
Even if you skim the sex scenes, the novel's rewarding - the character interaction is really wonderful. Camilla is this very cool, balanced individual and the way that she nurtures and cares for Ivan is almost motherly, which somehow combines perfectly with her submissive role in the bedroom. She's really trying to understand him, to accomodate his quirks, so there's always a sweetness to the hotness.
Really, I thought this was a little gem of a novel, and I hope to be reading more from Delphine Dryden in the future. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Theory of Attraction is the story of how Ivan and Camilla, two people who have been neighbours for the past two or more years, fall in love. Ivan is a professor of astrophysics at Houston University and a complete geek. Camilla who's studied social anthropology, accepts the task of preparing Ivan for a big fund-raising event that will help Ivan secure his tenure, as Ivan on his own is completely inept socially. Camilla has been drawn to Ivan for a long time, ever since she noticed him running without his shirt in front of her window, but has Ivan noticed Camilla as well? And if he is interested in her, can Camilla accept to follow his orders in the bedroom, since Ivan is a Dom?Ivan at first seems a lot like Sheldon from Big Bang Theory: always speaks what's in his mind regardless of how rude it can be, doesn't know the rules of socializing, indulges in video games and long nerdy discussions and most of all, follows his own strict daily schedule to the minute. I'm not too ashamed to admit that I find Sheldon kind of sexy; add a fantastic body and a handsome face to his personality, and you have a very hot hero in Ivan:) What kind of annoyed me is that Ivan of the second part, where his 'lessons' with Cami begin, is a different person: he's confident, self-assured, and mostly, not too obtuse and unable to keep his mouth shut or speak rudely as Ivan of the first half. For example, he knows that Camilla is trying to get his attention with her sexy dresses, but says nothing of it and pretends to ignore her until provoked, where he proves he's not as clueless as she (or the reader) thought. This and the fact that we don't get to know Camilla as a person besides her infatuation with Ivan, are the only two things I didn't appreciate in this book. Now, to the good stuff: The writing was excellent! Sparkling with wit and humour, it was a true delight to read. The sex scenes were hot, hot, HOT and the fact that we have a heat wave right now, caused me to read this with the air-conditioning on all the time:) The sexual tension between Ivan and Camilla was palpable, their encounters emotional as well as steamy, and Ivan as a Dom managed to be both tender and sexy at the same time. Another unique thing about this book, is that although it belongs more to the erotica rather than the contemporary romance shelf, we get to know the hero and heroine and see their flirting turn into something more, instead of jumping right into a sex scene by the end of chapter one. In short, The Theory of Attraction is one of the best romances I've read this summer and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a steamy and still light and well written book that just barely touches the basic BDSM aspects. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Camilla is in the middle of a long, dry spell and has recently noticed how hot one of her geeky neighbors is. The problem is, he doesn’t seem to notice that she is female. When Ivan asks for her help to get him socially ready for a fundraiser, she finds an unexpected side of her geeky neighbor and of herself.I really enjoyed the interactions of Cami and Ivan outside of bedroom and the scenes inside were scorching hot. The ending was incredibly sweet and believable. However, I felt a big disconnect between geeky Ivan outside the bedroom and the dominant inside the bedroom. It felt like I was reading about two different characters and I could never reconcile the two. This may be because the book is written in first person so I never got a look at what was going on in his head, I’m not sure. His speech pattern also changes. In one sex scene, he uses the clinical terms for body parts, then in the next he uses the more graphic, dirtier terms. It was a little jarring and took away from my overall enjoyment of the story.I wanted to love this book more than I did but I did enjoy it enough to check out this author’s backlist.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The nerd humor made me laugh, even out loud a few times near the beginning. The friends to lovers development was surprisingly sweet, and there was just enough angst near the end to keep it from being too sweet. There's a lot of sexytimes in the story, but it's also used to developed the characters and their relationship to each other in a way that works for me. I also liked how the communication issues seemed like real misunderstandings by people who were trying to do the right thing by each other. I liked the characters enough, actually, that I wish we'd gotten to spend more time with them.
