I turned just enough to catch how her face fell and reddened at the news. "I..." she began, but trailed off.

"Tell me," he said to her as she stood at attention.

"Tell what, sir?" she asked.

"Why did you fail the inspection?"

She looked at the ground, flustered and stammering. After a few seconds she fell silent and she closed her eyes. Master watched her coolly. After a moment, she opened her eyes and raised them to meet his.
