North of Quality?: Quality Television and the Suburban Crimeworld of Durham County
Lindsay Steenberg and Yvonne Tasker
Lindsay Steenberg and Yvonne Tasker undertake an analysis of the recent, very violent, critically acclaimed popular Canadian television series Durham County. Arguing that it was made in part to compete with the quality HBO mode, the authors indicate that the program competed successfully, despite its preservation of Canadian modes of crime writing, in the international market largely because the quality television format allows for national and even local stories to play successfully globally.
