    Precautions

We will be dealing with all natural substances in this book with next to zero side effects, as opposed to the now popular synthetics with a list of negative side effects ten miles long. Generally speaking, so long as you are respecting natural substances or taking them in their appropriate amounts, you should never run into any sort of problem or adverse effect. This is something that cannot be said for prescription meds or synthetics today, which cause their negative side effects as a result of the standard dose, essentially displaying that their harmful side-effect is in fact the effect of the medicine itself or how it actually functions within the body. The increasing awareness and amount of those very same negative side effects are in fact exactly what are driving everyone right back to the tried and true methods of our ancestors - natural medicine.

Nothing in excess, treat the natural substances as you do any other natural substance, such as the food you eat. Not that one can call the food natural any longer, but then that is all the more need for the natural medicines. Overall, as long as you are not excessive in your intake and even better if you stay within or close to the recommended amounts, you will get the desired effect and without the negative side-effects that come with synthetics.

Treat all substances appropriately, stick to basic or traditional preparation methods or guidelines, particularly when ingestion is involved. Always test all compounds in small amounts initially, particularly upon ingestion, and pay attention to yourself and how things affect you. We are each individuals and have our own unique chemical balances and needs. Some will need less of a substance and some will need more.

If you are currently on prescription medications or are taking other medications, keep in mind that these can interact poorly with the herbs or plant substances you ingest or use. You should consult your doctor, particularly for prescription drugs and remember to never mix medications. There are some cases where there will be little to no ill effects as a result of mixing synthetics with natural medicines, as in the case of garlic or similar substances that have been reported by many independent labs to actually improve the efficiency and narrow the negative side effects of even synthetic drugs, but this is certainly not always the case. It should be seen as a general rule to never mix synthetic chemical and natural herbal medications.

Always be cautious in taking multiple doses or overlapping the effects of even herbs. Though in the case of herbs, most aid one another, have zero or next to zero side effects and are quite complementary in their effects on the body. It is however always wise to err on the side of caution. After all, there is always the possibility of too much of a good thing. Like taking three anti-inflammatories when you should only be taking one or even simply taking substances that step on one another and therefore ruin the overall good effects by opposing one another's benefits, such as when taking a substance that promotes perspiration and then one that reduces perspiration at the same time. You have to pay attention to the ultimate outcome you desire and then focus solely on that desired outcome.

To be both safe and effective, it is best to stick with what has worked for thousands of years or to research the effects of taking specific substances together for greater effect. A good example being the combination of hawthorn, ginkgo biloba and perhaps even butcher’s broom as an excellent combination remedy for both poor circulation as well as cleaning the arteries, veins and capillaries of plaque and obstructions. However, we still generally recommend the use of one herbal remedy at a time or to combine only those that do not clash or interact for most effectiveness. Taking a substance for nourishment that is otherwise harmless or that will not affect the system such as slippery elm, to carry a pain reliever such as cat's claw is certainly okay, but taking two pain relieving substances such as a full dose of butterbur and a full dose of feverfew is never a good idea. Though I should mention that butterbur and feverfew were traditionally taken together in half doses of each for particularly troublesome pains or headaches. But mind the key word of half, as in one-half of each standard dose being taken together. They are a complementary substance, have similar effects and so taking one-half of a full dose of each would result in one complete and more thorough dose of pain reliever. Just keep in mind that this is not always going to work for any or certainly every substance. Always research before taking any form of combination remedy.

Typically, you should be most cautious during pregnancy as another life is at stake, and the baby will in fact have its own sensitivities that no one is aware of until they are born. However, there are some quite harmless substances that will have a good effect and that can be taken during pregnancy, such as slippery elm. There are even substances intended for pregnancy and childbirth as well, such as black and blue cohosh. We will try to have a work available shortly for treating morning sickness or even for improving pregnancy specifically, as there are many herbs that are quite beneficial and that are even still used by modern medicine for such benefit due to their effectiveness. However, since pregnancy is a very large subject to cover alongside others, we have reserved most of that specific information for the future in another work that will focus solely on the subject of pregnancy. Since we are dealing with the preparation and a foundational understanding of herbal and plant medicine, we will focus solely or primarily on that subject alone for a mastery of the basics of such. A more thorough understanding of basic healing and remedies for most common ailments and the ability to take such healing into one’s own hands is the first step and key to moving into such specific realms of self-healing or self-care.

    OVERVIEW

One thing we’ve strived to do in this book is to make it as human as possible. Jargon has never impressed us and we have always found it unnecessary or even pompous, unless you are a lab technician attempting to categorize and explain your latest findings in your own language amongst other scientists. Jargon is not only unnecessary, but is easily misunderstood by or even unknown to the common individual. There should be no person on Earth who cannot understand what you are trying to convey when you are a reasonably good teacher, so long as they generally speak your language and so long as you are not attempting to hide the facts and information from others – which is in fact the purpose of jargon to begin with mind you.

One attempting to spread the truth and healing of nature would of course never conceal their information in some code of sorts or other manmade complexity. In fact, as nature would dictate, it is important that codes be broken, deciphered and information be spread instead when attempting to convey those things of nature. We wanted this book to be user friendly, so that anyone is able to read it and actually understand what is said, instead of most readers requiring a dictionary or glossary of terms just to understand what it contains. If I am consulting Google or some other search engine just to read a book, that book is not written for the majority of people who will be reading it.

Complexity is not a teacher, complexity is a concealer. Simplicity is the teacher and the mark of someone who understands the material they convey. After all, all things in life are simple when it comes down to the bottom line, it’s just about a basic understanding of concepts or information and working your way through to your answer. Complexity distracts us from the real information otherwise present.

We’re in no contest to live up to the false expectations of big pharma, instead this book is about passing along the ancient and effective knowledge of our ancestors that has been buried under the disinformation and profit margins of special interest groups looking to divorce humanity entirely from their origins in nature. Keeping timeless, natural healing methods a secret does us all a huge disservice. The only ones to benefit are those who profit from the perpetual illness of the populace or those seeking to sell patented synthetic chemical medications with terrible side effects, instead of spreading those natural substances of the Earth that do all the same and far more, but without the negative aspects.

Now let’s get on with the information so that we may come to know a great deal more about how to take control of our own health and therefore our own lives.

    NATURAL MEDICINE

Healing ourselves with what is of nature

    A WORD ON NATURAL MEDICINE

We live in a rather backward world today, we are told that synthetic chemical drugs are somehow the mainstay of healing humanity and that those natural plants and herbal substances used throughout all time to great effect are somehow some shady alternative to these synthetics. Popular culture is clearly corporatized as a result and seeks only to place itself in a good light, while darkening the standpoint and view of all other perspectives, even that of the Earth and nature itself sporting meadows full of herbs for healing. What is important to keep in mind is that herbal remedies and plant medicines were among the first and only few medicines to be used throughout all of human history. Only in the last 100 years or less (closer to 60 years or less in truth) have human beings begun to create and use what are truly synthetic chemical medicines. Before this and for thousands of years prior, natural substances were used or even recombined in order to make extremely effective natural remedies – many of which are still in use today in mainstream synthetic riddled medicine due to their effectiveness and no substitutes having yet been created as a result. Even then, most of the so-called substitutes for many natural materials carry with them none of the extra benefits found in their natural predecessors. Add to this the long list of negative side effects of the synthetics instead of a list of nutritional and other bodily benefits as with the natural substances and we have a much clearer picture of the actual nature of natural versus synthetic medicine. And how dangerous to become reliant on something that we ourselves cannot procure or recreate?

But how exactly did this all happen? I could write for volumes about the cornering of markets, certain human beings believing that they actually own other human beings and have rights to abusing them in kind, the patenting of chemical substances for exclusive rights to profit, the banning of natural counterparts with scare tactics and lies to guarantee those profits, human ownership in a market then emptied of all competition and a culture then emptied of all proper knowledge, the throwing about of money to have additional government agencies created toward these unscrupulous efforts, the fact that this otherwise must be done by those seeking exclusive profits and control due to natural substances simply growing everywhere and being illegal to patent, etcetera. But those are matters for another book, here we will
