About this ebook

The second volume of the crusades trilogy from bestelling Swedish author Jan Guillou.

THE KNIGHT TEMPLAR follows Arn's adventures in the Holy Land, where he discovers that the infidel Saracens aren’t as brutish and uncivilised as he had been led to believe, and that in fact there is another, darker side to the teaching of the Cistercians.

Enjoyed reading this second of the trilogy for the same reasons as I enjoyed the first.

The Templar Knight continues the story of Arn Magnusson, now serving as a Templar Knight in the Holy Land. As we travel with Arn about his business, we learn more about the inner workings of the Order of Knights Templar, are introduced to some of the celebrities of the age, such as Saladin and Richard the Lionheart and live through the battles of this time. We also see life in Sweden at this time through the eyes of Arn's love interest, Cecilia, who becomes more of a character in her own right. The book was a page turner and you just need to accept that Arn will be in the right place at the right time to introduce you to the major characters and events of this era. I really did like the author's descriptions of the places and the people of the Crusades and am looking forward to the English translation of part three of the trilogy.

A brilliant historical mediaeval romantic epic stretching from kings and queens of Sweden to the knights templars, the fearless and faithful soldiers of God, defending Jerusalem from Saladin and his Saracens. A meticulous piece of genius by Jan Guillou for the complex web of characters and lives woven into the overwhelming Ecclesiastical way of life in the rigid hierarchical Catholic structure to the tremendous struggle for power and bloodshed in the name of Christianity and Islam in the Holy Land. Breathtakingly beautiful. Thank you Jan Guillou.
