The trumpet call rang out across the Valley of Death, its shrill and ominous sound an order to advance towards the enemy. Horses lurched forward, hastened by the roughly 670 mounted men of the Light Brigade, as a cloud of frosted breath filled the air.
Alexander Roberts Dunn, a Canadian lieutenant with the 11th Hussars made up part of the second line of attack. His oversized sword scabbard brushed against his thigh with every stride of his mount, as he followed the first ranks of cavalrymen in their advance across the open ground.
