About this ebook

Up in the sky a tiny spark hovered and swayed in the darkness. What could it be…? A classic original Mary Poppins novel.

Still they waited. And still the spark grew ever larger and brighter. Then suddenly Jane caught her breath. And Michael gave a gasp. Down came the spark, growing longer and wider. And as it came, it took on a shape that was strange and also familiar. Out of the glowing core of light emerged a curious figure – a figure in a black straw hat and a blue coat trimmed with silver buttons.

Another charming entry in the Mary Poppins series, and perfectly enjoyable bedtime reading. The last chapter does have the feeling of a send-off even though there were several books after this one.

Mary Poppins flies in on a rocket (firecracker) on Guy Fawkes Day. The usual wonderful adventures ensue, with Mary being tart, sarcastic, and dictatorial - nothing at all like Julie Andrews!! We have encounters with Peppermint Horses, a Cat that looks at the King, and a statue named Neleus, among others. When the "Other Door" opens and she leaves, she is seen off by many of the series characters not only from this book, but from the previous ones. We are left with the feeling this might really be the real end.
