Randall King was not usually a hateful man.

Usually, here, being the key word. Usually Randall let things slide off his back. It was all water under the bridge, things that didn’t matter. Life was too short to get distracted by people who couldn’t tell their ass from their elbow, and so he ignored them.

But for one moment, as he was cut off by yet another ridiculous driver on the way to the bank after using his last goddamned vacation day, he felt a little hateful.

He thought about raising his fist and cursing out the driver, but he didn’t. He contented himself with a little daydream about bashing into the man’s slicked up, cherry-red Pagani. He imagined driving the idiot off the road and rolling out of his car to get into a knockdown, drag out fight. He imagined all the heavy breathing and deadened sounds as fists connected. It would have felt good, really good, to get a little payback for all the other drivers that had to put up with that crap.

By the time Randall had almost convinced himself to hit the gas and do it, the red Pagani was gone. He told himself he didn’t care

As he pulled into the parking lot of his bank, he considered all the things he wanted to say. Most of them were fuck you and where’s my money, but he also had a few coherent thoughts that he would bust out first. He drummed his hands around the steering wheel as he drove around, and around, and around looking for a parking spot before finally parking on the street.
