    A Note From The Author

    ONE

This is the first officially documented case of the strange things happening here in my neighborhood. More specifically, here on my street, Queen Anne Avenue. Before now, I wrote things down in my journal, but even that was disorganized notes at best. I hope not only to document my thoughts on video, but to actually obtain proof of these mysterious events.

Jacob Harrison paused to gather his thoughts. He was twelve years old as of last January. Just having gotten into his pajamas and brushed his teeth, he decided to record his first official investigation before bed. The camera, a fairly expensive, newer model, sat on a simple tripod pointed directly at Jacob sitting in a chair in front of it, record light blinking.

His room sat on the second level of the Harrison's beautiful brick home in the right hand front corner. The house being fairly centered in the street, Jacob had a good view of all the things going on up and down Queen Anne, essential to an aspiring paranormal investigator.

"I've seen a lot of things around here. Things that nobody could explain, things that nobody could believe. Now I'll have proof. With this case, I've unfortunately only seen things happen out the corner of my eye. This case concerns a mysterious person in my neighborhood. In fact, he lives right next door.

He can't be much younger than my brother Josh, who's seventeen, but it seems as though he lives alone. That or his parents never go anywhere. He's the only one I've seen. He's also been around for a year, but nobody's ever seen him at school. Seems like nobody's ever talked to him either. From my room I can see his house, and both his back and front yards. I can't say for sure that there's something strange going on, but I'm pretty sure I've seen him move some really heavy things with no help. A refrigerator with no wheels that he carried out to the curb for the garbage men, a large boulder in his back yard. He didn't even seem to break a sweat. It's just weird.

Jacob stood up and grabbed the camera, still recording, and re-positioned it.

What I'm going to do is hook up the camera to the computer and leave it recording on his back yard. Hopefully we'll get something good.

Jacob's neighbor's back yard was neat and clean. The lawn cut uniformly. No toys or tools laying on the yard or patio. It also seemed blank. No decorations, no sign of life.

The computer desk sat right next to his side window, making it easy for Jacob to stretch the camera cable to the computer and start recording to the hard drive. After he set everything up, he looked back out the window with hope and even a little excitement in his eyes.

Come on man, let's see what you can do.

He sat in front of the computer with the image of his neighbor's back yard on the screen. He picked up a magazine called Paranormal Places, a sort of travel magazine for those interested in the supernatural. It wasn't long before he fell asleep, head back with his mouth wide open.

The loud, metallic sound jolted Jacob awake. It took him a second to register where he was and why he fell asleep there. When he finally shook off the last bits of dreaminess he stood, wiping the drool off of his cheek. He looked over at his surveillance setup and decided to shut everything down to let it cool off.

Just as he was turning off the camera, another loud metal sound took him off guard. His first reaction of course, was to wonder what the creepy neighbor boy was up to. After looking out his window, he saw no movement, no sign of anything weird. Then the noise came once more.

What is going on? He said to himself.

Then he decided to give Queen Anne a look. Sure enough, out his front window, he saw it. A big moving van only a few houses down and across the street was being unloaded. The moving guys, naturally being as loud as they could coming down the steel ramp.

Then he noticed the people moving in. A tall person and a short person. He couldn't quite see them well enough from where he was. He reached over to his dresser and took out a pair of nice binoculars, opened the blinds and brought them to his eyes.

    Woah.

Standing by the moving truck was an adult woman, talking very animatedly with her hands at the moving men. Jacob was focused on the other person though, a girl who had to be the woman's daughter. She couldn't be any older than Jacob himself, she was about his height, maybe a little taller, with wavy blond hair and a jean jacket. Plus, she was... well... beautiful.

It wouldn't be for another few days before Jacob remembered to check the video he recorded last night. It'd be another few days until he saw his neighbor walk outside and begin moving the rocks without touching them at all.

    TWO

Hey, you know anything about the new people moving in across the street? Jacob asked his brother as he came down the stairs.

Josh, standing taller than most seventeen year olds, turned on him from the fridge. He had the same brown hair and bright blue eyes as Jacob and their dad, but he had their mom's thin nose and jaw. He took in Jacob's wondering expression. You think she's cute, don't you?

Jacob was taken off guard. What? Who? No.

A slight smile spread across Josh's face.

    Shut up. Jacob said.

Hey, it's okay with me if you think she's cute. It's about time you had an interest in girls.

I don't. He replied as he tied his shoes in a hurry, foot propped up on a kitchen stool. Josh bent down and took the laces out of Jacob's hands.

You're doing it wrong anyway. He said as he tied his little brother's shoes.

Just then they heard the front door opening. They both looked over to the kitchen entryway coming from the living room. Andrew Gooding rounded the corner, almost knocking the phone off the wall. He was a strawberry blond kid with a glowing face and just big all over. He was taller than most twelve year olds, and rounder too.

Hey Andrew, Jacob said, careful of the phone okay?

Sorry. He said, trying to catch his breath. He was, obviously, in a hurry to get here. He stuttered over his words, unable to catch his breath between them. Did you... did you see... did you see...

Josh finished, The girl across the street? He looked to Jacob. Oh yea, he saw her.

Jacob flashed Josh a look. Shut up. He said then took his foot down, shoe tied neatly. Thank you.

So where're your parents at? I thought there'd be bacon or sausage going or something. Andrew looked around the kitchen like an animal sniffing out prey. Jacob and Josh chuckled.

Josh answered, They both had to pull a weekend shift at the car lot. He grabbed his backpack and headed toward the living room. They'll be home for dinner though if you'd like to stop by then. He grabbed a couple things of toaster pastries out of the cupboard and handed one each to Jacob and Andrew.

Well, where are you going then?

    I have work.

    On a Saturday?

Last I checked, book stores stayed open on the weekends. Besides, can't work during school. He threw on a pair of headphones and saluted Jacob and Andrew as he opened the front door and left.

Andrew shook his head, Boy, I never wanna be an adult.

It happens to the best of us Andy. Jacob said.

It's Andrew, remember? Ever since Andrew Lee moved into the neighborhood, Andrew insisted on being called Andrew and not Andy like he had been for the past lifetime. Problem was, Andrew Lee insisted on being called Andrew as well, making it a bit more confusing for everyone.

Jacob patted Andrew on the shoulder. Sorry man. Ready to shoot some hoops? They began to walk out of the house.

Can we just play horse this time? Or maybe just sit and watch the others play?

    THREE

When Jacob and Andrew passed the new girl's house, they both craned their necks, trying to catch a glimpse. No luck, it seemed she may have gone inside, though her mom was still standing by the truck directing the movers like one of those guys
