    Sisters - Tabatha Kristy

    Chapter 1

    ––––––––

Twins succumb in local house fire.

These bold words flash across the television screens as evening reporter interrupts the prime time viewing schedule to report on the breaking news story.

    ––––––––

"Good evening, I’m Brian Murphy coming directly to you from the burning ashes of this destroyed home you see behind me. Local fire investigators are currently still on the scene trying to determine how the fire transpired that took the lives of these two local sisters. Fire Chief Smith disclosed that as of right now it is still unclear what essentially started the fatal fire.

Several family members have informed us that the sisters who expired in the blaze were thirteen year old, Tammy and Cyndi Stevenson, identical twins.

The reporter turned towards one of the men, Here now with Chad Daniels, one of the fire fighters that attempted to rescue the girls. Chad can you tell us what happened here tonight? The camera pans over to the distraught man.

The top floor of the home was fully engulfed in flames when we arrived on the scene. There was nothing we could do when we entered; the top floor was just too far gone for us to proceed. We were unable to reach the area where the girls were to get them out. Lord knows we did all we could, a sob catching in his throat.

Mr. Daniels can you give us any more details?

Two of my men started up the stairwell towards the upper floor where the girls were when it gave way underneath them. We had to back out of the house in fear of the top floor caving in on the men. We couldn’t get to them; we had to let them go. The man turned quickly away trying to hide the sobs that were escaping him.

The camera pans back to the reporter. Family, friends and loved ones have filled up the streets tonight, the reporter states as the camera shows the chaos happening behind him. "They are all here showing their support for this family, painfully grieving over the lost of Tammy and Cyndi, the two identical twin sisters that perished here tonight.

Family members and friends can only say one word describing this loss, devastating.

The reporter turns to someone in the street, Sir, can you tell me what you are feeling right now?

It’s still a shock to me, he said breathlessly. It’s a shock, I’m in shock, and I can’t believe it. They were so young and beautiful, so full of life. I still can’t believe that they are really gone.

Turning to the next bystander, Miss, can you tells us why you are here tonight?

I’m here showing my support to the family over this horrific accident. The girls, they were well-loved by every single one of these people around here. We all knew them and loved them dearly, she stated and started to weep.

The camera panned back to the reporter. "The state fire Marshall will be taking over the investigation and try to determine how the fire may have started.

This is Brian Murphy reporting from the tragic scene were two identical twins lost their lives in a local house fire tonight. Additional updates will be announced as further information is received. For now I’m Brian Murphy reporting for CBX news, good-night.

    Chapter 2

    1987

    14 Years Earlier

It was the night of the big Storm; many still call it that to this day. The night of the Super Storm. On this dark stormy evening several different storms collided together combining into one big mass of ruthless mayhem, wrecking havoc across the rain drenched country side. The colossal storm clouds brought with them not only rain but an unknown enemy, filling many lives with loss, regret and outright terror.

The year was 1987 in the small town of Goreville in the southern most portion of Illinois. Right smack dab in the main track of what the locals called Tornado Alley. The quiet peaceful town of fifteen hundred souls had seen its fair share of storms throughout the years. But the Super Storm of ‘87 was one for the record books and a day Samantha Stevenson would never ever forget.

That afternoon started out rough with heavy rain showers, leaving very expectant mother Samantha Stevenson and her one year old son Daniel confined inside their home. Her husband Matthew was at work and would not be returning home for several hours. Matthew has been a guard for many years at the Marion Maximum Security Prison. With his long grueling hours and the forty-five minute drive, it left not much time for his family. So his days off were precious to both of them and they made sure they spent it in each other’s company. But at moments like this she desperately wished her husband was able to find a job closer to home so he would be there more often.

The failing economy and living in a rural country environment had its ups and downs but did not leave someone with many choices for employment. Samantha was very proud of her husband’s accomplishments; he was able to provide a decent living for their family so she was
