'Sell it on eBay Dad , it must be worth something, its nearly a hundred years old and in perfect nick, I bet some collector out there will pay a mint for it.'
This was my seventeen-year-old son David
'Well,' I said cautiously, 'I suppose it might be worth something, but of course it doesn't actually work.'
'But then nobody would expect a radio built in the nineteen thirties to work,' said my wife Helen 'But it does look lovely in that polished wood with the brass knobs and big dial with all the old European stations. I wouldn't mind keeping it just as an ornament.'
'Why would granddad have kept it for so long Dad, I mean it must have stopped working years ago. '
David was turning the tuning knob of the old radio slowly as he spoke.
'Well I suppose he kept it for sentimental reasons, your grandmother said he brought it with him from Holland when came over in 1940.'
'Well if I was running from the Nazis I wouldn't have humped a big thing like that all the way.'
