About this ebook
In Musings Over A Mop Bucket Philip McKenning explores, in 20 short chapters, some practical and theoretical suggestions of how to create an authentic music setting for the local church.
For musicians, this book offers several methods of how to grow into their own unique style; for the worship leader, the tools to channel the creativity and style of their musicians; for the local church, the ability to embrace its own unique sound based on the members that serve in it.
Philip McKenning
After completing his degree in music at York St John University, Philip stayed on as a cleaner. He also leads worship in local churches and teaches electric guitar to secondary school pupils.

Introduction
Hello there.
I’m Phil. I’m 27 years old, a York resident, guitar teacher, worship leader and cleaner - bet you didn’t see that coming - and now I’m an author too.
The catalyst for this book is simply that I am keen to see the expression of people’s musical voice in church worship music.
When I started, I began by focusing on the subject of ‘Finding Your Voice’. The aim was to explain what can be achieved if we let our creative voices come through to serve our churches’ vision of worship.
However, after writing a few chapters it became clear to me that more thoughts were coming out than I was able to explore without going off the original theme. I decided to write a book of articles instead, which would allow me to cover all the ideas and practical solutions that had come out when I started writing.
I wanted to write a book that wouldn’t take long to read, and that was broken into easily digestible chunks. This book includes theories, experiences, practical applications and workshop ideas which may be of assistance or just affirm thoughts you already have on this topic.
Please, understand that I am not wishing to instigate mutinies in your church worship teams. I don’t want you to storm your worship leader’s castle to bring down the regime of their worship dictatorship. We must support our leaders, and I am hoping that this book will be a help to our churches rather than a hindrance.
You don’t have to agree with my viewpoints. It could be that in disagreeing with them, you find the answer to issues you are experiencing in your churches. If by you disagreeing with me, your church benefits, I’ll be over the moon!
Finally, this is not a daily bible devotional; the scriptures at the top of each page add a biblical link to the theme of that current article. They are not there to support my opinions. My hope is that they may prod you to look in your Bible and read the book or chapter being quoted - never a bad thing!
All the best!
Philip McKenning
