About this ebook

Caro Austin is still settling into her new home, as well as new relationship with Prentiss Tompkins, when a local hairdresser is murdered. Caro knows it's usually the spouse who did it, but when the husband turns up dead as well, she and Prentiss set out to find the killer. Along the way, the pair face a suspicious duo of funeral directors, an amorous female barkeep, and a police captain who's determined to see his rival Prentiss out of the picture...not to mention a Halloween appearance by the Grim Reaper. Can you solve the mystery before Caro? Enjoy!

You know anything about electrolysis, Lou? Caro proffered her tea glass to the waitress for a refill as the blond woman shook her head.

Don’t even know what that is.

You know, hair removal. An electric current kills the hair you don’t want.

Oh, sure. Missy Pettigrew does that down at the Vilmont. You thinking about trying it?

    Dunno. Maybe. What’s the Vilmont?

A little market with an attached beauty shop. Missy’s been there for years, but she just added the hair removal. Tell her I sent you.

Caro hung up the phone and hoped that Missy Pettigrew was good at what she did. Caro was tired of tweezing, and when she finally decided to let Prentiss Tompkins kiss her, she wanted his to be the only upper lip fuzz to come between them.

Lou had given Caro directions...of a sort. Caro began to wonder how many had entered the labyrinth that encircled the industrial area around the village only to disappear never to be heard from again. After twenty minutes of driving back and forth, Caro saw the Vilmont sign and pulled into the small parking lot.

Missy Pettigrew met her at the door. If any woman didn’t look like a Missy, Caro was sure it was Ms. Pettigrew. She had to stand over six feet tall and weighed...goodness, Caro didn’t want to even think how much the woman might weigh. Her white uniform made her look like a sadistic asylum nurse from an ancient horror
