Nut Job
Spotch, the Cross-Eyed Squirrel, could never give up gathering nuts. The fact he became cross-eyed at an early age, never slowed him down. Any size and shape nut always held a special meaning. To Spotch, his sole purpose of living is to collect nuts. Not only did he have enough nuts to last six months, Spotch had enough to feed all eighteen brothers and sisters.
Like clockwork, Spotch headed out at five a.m. to begin his day. After picking up his one nut ransom from thirty-five homeowners, Spotch decided to search a different area. He headed north, through the woods, and came out on Fairview Drive. Spotch looked left, then right, and then left again, before crossing the road.
Once on the other side, Spotch paused. He swore he heard a nut fall. Spotch stood and listened to the sound of another nut striking the ground. However, something told him the nut wasn't striking the earth. No, this sound was different.
Spotch knew the sound came from his right and decided to investigate. He moved slowly through the woods, listening, smelling the air, and tuning all his senses to the elusive nuts. He took three more steps before his body trembled. His whole body shook when the sound of two thousands nuts struck the ground. Spotch's eyes got big, his nose twitched rapidly, and his ears pinpointed the exact location.
He increased his speed to twenty miles an hour. Spotch dodged bushes, jumped fallen trees, and plowed through one-foot tall grass with little concern. However, a six-foot, chain link fence sure slowed him down. He plowed headlong into the fence. His body came up and slammed into the fence. Spotch fell to the ground, head first.
It didn't take Spotch long to come back to his senses. He looked and couldn't believe his eyes. Spotch reached the top of the fence in two seconds flat. Before him lay the most beautiful sight he had ever seen. Someone had dumped thousands of almonds nuts in a pile. Spotch looked closer and nearly fainted.
He watched as two men put up a large sign on the building. The sign read: The Nut Factory.
Spotch couldn't believe his good fortune. He had waited all his life for something like this to happen. And, now that it had, he didn't know what to do
