    Chapter 1

    Ybrit Holsen stood at her breakfast bar munching a Nutri-Snack and drinking CoffeeSim. Beside her was her AI cyber-owl, Egbert. She was running late for her shift on patrol in the badlands. It was going to be one of those days. Egbert was nagging again. Miss Holsen you really should take more care. You're too reckless. Especially when you are out on patrol.

    I'm fine Eggers she said.

    No Miss Holsen he replied you're too foolhardy. If you want to advance if the military corps you must gain maturity. Ybrit wrinkled her brow at this distorting the elite warrior emblem on her forehead but said nothing.

    Her communicator beeped. She grabbed it off the counter and pressed receive. It was her squad mate Hollinger - I've got some very bad news gal. The city's electromagnetic dome has been breached. There's nothing between us and all that crap in the badlands now. Radiation levels are already off the scale. People are dying by the shed-load. And I'm sorry to tell you gal - you and I are the last two surviving members of our squad. They rest all bought it a few minutes ago.
