To Adam, Jude and Stephanie....my heart is yours. You are the reason this novella exists.

Every twenty-eight years his world would shatter. The circle of life and death would leave him remembering and forgetting the love he once had. He didn't know how many times the cycle had been repeated, but this time it would be different. Death would not take his memories this time. The nightmare would finally come to an end.

    Chapter One

The narrow cobblestoned driveway was flanked by rows of evergreen trees. Snow had begun to settle in patchwork patterns on a few of the limbs. Winter has definitely taken hold. Nessa said to herself silently.

The car continued to jump from side to side, the stones showing their wear and lack of attention. The evening light was very little help to make the journey any smoother. After four long days of traveling, Nessa already had bruises in places she didn't even know could bruise. Unfortunately, this last mile of the trip was the worst.

Nessa could see the light grow slightly brighter as the trees gave way to the courtyard of the house. It had been years, but she could still remember the spacious layout of the gorgeous rose garden her great-aunt attended every summer. As the car slowly closed the distance, Nessa could remember the fragrance of the multitudes of colored flowers in the garden bed where she had played hide-n-seek with her great-uncle. The years seemed to melt away as her memories became clear and crisp.

It was bittersweet coming home. It had been ten long years and now she regretted not coming home sooner. She hadn't had a chance to say goodbye. Her great-aunt and uncle's death had been unexpected. It felt like déjà vu coming back, the sadness and remorse were as strong now as they had been twenty years ago when her parents had died.

She parked in front of the house. Stepping out, she looked at the place she called home and realized she'd forgotten how large it was. The vines crawled up the stonework walls creating an air of mystery. The heavy double doors gave an illusion of the house being a castle rather than a home.

A sense of ease and a feeling of great comfort settled inside Nessa. Life had been carefree and peaceful when she lived her, and Nessa experienced another twinge of regret, wishing she had never left. She should have stayed and enjoyed the joys of her simple life.
