About this ebook

Police Detective Whitney Manning escaped from the horrors of the crimes she witnessed nearly every day into the fantasy worlds of her books. Then one day, fantasy became all too real when she met a girl with a powerful genie and her life would never be the same, as told in the pages of CLOCKWORK GENIE.

In this follow-up paranormal murder mystery short story, Manning finds that the genie's influence didn't end with that first adventure. She wasn't even supposed to be there when the bullet struck her chest. Detective Whitney Manning should be dead. This continues the CLOCKWORK GENIE MYSTERIES.

THE COP WHO WOULDN'T DIE: A Clockwork Genie Story

Her partner was on his honeymoon and she was about to die.

Homicide Detective Whitney Manning, out of the West Los Angeles Division of the LAPD, was driving her red 1969 Mustang Mach 1 - a classic that never needed a wash or wax and its tank was always full - East along the 10 Freeway for home and her handsome mature live-in boyfriend. One of these days he was going to put a ring on her finger; she knew it. It was just a matter of time, or she'd make him do it.

In under an hour she would be home enjoying dinner with her lover, and she had to admit he was a whole lot better to snuggle up to at night instead of a paperback novel. All the same, the radio call had awoken her adrenalin which hadn't been used all day, so Whitney flipped on her siren and flasher, cut across two lanes of traffic and was down an off ramp in seconds.

You're sweet, as always, Whitney replied with a loving smile as she pulled her Mustang to the curb, but I may be a bit late. Go treat yourself to something special; I'll hit a drive-thru on the way home. Sorry.

Well, I want you next to me in bed tonight, so please be careful.

Aren't I always, she said getting out of the car. Lov'ya.

Whitney pocketed the earbud as she saw more than a dozen black-and-whites up ahead. She flashed her badge to the uniformed officer who guarded this side of the crime scene. Nodding to her, he raised the yellow tape so she could duck and enter.

What do we got? Whitney approached the Incident Command, Harold Burk.

What are you doing here, Manning? He hardly glanced her way; his eyes and those
