Ten strangers have been invited by a mysterious host to stay for a visit in the host's luxurious house. This house resides on a private island. Once they all are settled in, they are confronted with the reason why they had been chosen for the occasion. The reason has each member in the house looking at each other with apprehension - and rightfully so. Unfortunately, their time together as a group is limited due to the one-by-one elimination of each house guest.I really enjoyed this! Throughout the entire book, the level of suspense was kept high by all the twists and turns. It made me eager to get back to it as soon as I could; I was definitely hooked. However, I have to say that the very ending wasn't as exciting as the rest of the book. For some reason, I expected to be wowed and I wasn't, but it was still a very good read and I'm glad I finally made time for it. (4.5/5)Originally posted on: Thoughts of Joy

Summit High School Freshman required reading....nice anti-semintism on page 6-7-off to a great start!
I cannot believe this is the book they chose for 369 freshmen to read! It is fine for an old fashioned mystery novel read on the beach, but it offers no cultural enlightenment and showcases no literary brilliance. It is not a novel that anyone would hand down to their child; (A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, To Kill a Mockingbird, Night, The Crucible, A Clockwork Orange, The Age of Innocence,The Good Earth, The Color Purple, Death of a Salesman, In Cold Blood, anything by Steinbeck, Willa Cather, Jane Austen, Virgina Woolf, Henry Miller, the Russians......you know, writers of literature/books where you learn about an era, a society, how to write...)
I cannot imagine what brilliant assignments the kids are going to have to write : who did you think did it? Why do you think he did it? Meh! Waste of an opportunity by Summit High School English Department.

Started and finished in a day! Just as good as the first time I heard the story and, because I couldn’t remember who the murderer was, it kept me in suspense until the end. It was a fast and easy read. So glad I finally picked this one up!

I had such high expectations after Murder on the Orient Express that I was looking forward to another unconventional whodunnit. Most other reviewers, and perhaps most of its 100 million readers, disagree. They enjoy it for the ingenuity of the plot, or the moral questions raised about how one can dispense justice. On the first point, as I could not connect with any of the characters, I lacked any interest in identifying the murderer. On the second point, the moral question arose in my mind as more of a brief afterthought than a deep analysis.

What saves this novel, for me, is the surprise ending. The problem is I don't read novels solely for their endings.

It's been seven years since I last read this and I somehow forgot who did this and it drove me nuts until I got to the end! It's a real windinger of a mystery that you have to be a genius to even begin to solve. Ten strangers are invited to Indian island under "murky" circumstances, they soon found out that their mysterious host Mr. U N Owen (unknown) hasn't bothered to show. Too late they realize that something is afoot and the guests begin to die off one at a time. Whose behind it? Is there someone else on the island? Is it one of them? The deaths get more and more outlandish and they all start to crack. Who would do such a thing? It's dark, deep, and one hell of a mystery. A classic that will never go out of style!

I really loved this book and would recommend this to almost anyone. There were a lot of twists and everything fits together so well even if you don't see it until the end. It's a book worth reading for a second time.

What a wonderful piece of writing! So simple, yet so complex a plot which kept me guessing and second guessing right to the end. A writer at the very top of her game. I just wonder why I waited so long to read this. Bravo Agatha!

Christie's best work (my top 5 would be rounded out by "Five Little Pigs", "Crooked House", "Murder on the Orient Express" and "A Murder is Announced"). She devoted herself to constructing this elaborate mystery which fills the page with complex characters and then proceeds to psychologically damaging them, while also inspiring us, chapter after chapter, to say "No way!" The climactic scenes on a lonely beach are simply chilling.

If you've somehow managed to avoid spoilers for this book, despite the numerous film and stage adaptations (many of which infamously change the ending, while only the Russians attempt to make it MORE bleak!), read this now before someone spoils it for you.

Ten people from different walks of life are lured to an island under false pretenses, cut off from the outside world, and then told startling secrets about each other. When one of their number dies in a possible accident, suspicion is rife. It sounds cliched, and nowadays it is (alright, it wasn't hugely surprising back then either). But as the story goes on, Christie continues to challenge us - and herself - in an attempt to write the perfect murder mystery.

Don't get me wrong - Christie is a storyteller, not a literary giant. I'm not saying this is Thomas Hardy here, but it's a seminal work of detective fiction (well... "detective" fiction, in this case) for anyone who is even remotely interested in the genre.

This was the first novel by Christie that I read. And though it has been many years since I did, the story still sticks with me. A group of eight people is lured to an island, through an offer tailored specifically to him or her, invited to a remote island. There, they are all accused of having committed murder and escaping justice - and then they begin to die one by one. Who is the killer? Most well done mysteries have some kind of "twist" or misdirection to keep a reader from guessing the ending. Christie's other novel, Murder on the Orient Express, is probably more famous for doing so because of the film adaptations. However, this is her best selling novel - and for good reason. Orient Express is flashier, but the suspects are all very one dimensional and Poirot's deduction has left impact. Here, readers become more involved with the characters which provides more impact for the final resolution. An excellent mystery and strong evidence for Christie's nickname "Queen of Crime."

For me, this was not an enjoyable read. I often find books written in times I'm not familiar with to be slow going. This book was one of those. Still, the plot was intriguing and the final chapter on the solution to the crime was brilliant, so I had to give it a 4.

It was an okay story. The storyline was interesting. I thought it was slow and not very engaging. Not one of my favorites but still worth reading though.

I wonder if Agatha was a fan of Crime and Punishment. The chapters seem to rely more on developing mania than sleuthing - unless you count the act of reading as sleuthing. This mystery was one of her favorites (I think I read her say that) and I guess it's because of the creativity, each character is victim, detective and jury. I love her ridiculous, yet life-like characters and novel story arcs. I like that I felt like the detective of the story. But, no one is Dostoyevsky.

Ten Little Niggers is one my favorite Agatha Christie books. I also watched the 1945 black & white movie adaptation of the book. It is interesting to notice that the movie was producted in the US by director René Clair, and was released as And Then There Were None. In England, according to the Internet Movie Database, it was released that same year as both And Then There Were None and Ten Little Niggers. I remember reading it in Portuguese many years ago as "O Caso dos Dez Negrinhos." Who would have thought such racists (as Americans are, right?) would change the title of this movie...

"One little Indian boy left all alone; He went and hanged himself and then there were none."Creepiest ending to a nursery rhyme ever? It's got my vote!Great book - great ending! 10 people are invited to Indian Island. Then they start dying. And no one knows who is doing the killing! The Epilogue sheds a little light. And then there's that note found in a bottle...A masterful who-done-it and a pleasure to read!

It has been quite a while now that a book has grabbed me and I have finished it in a day. This was fantastic. I kept wanting more. I did not guess the ending at all. I was clueless. This was my first Agatha Christie book and I 💯 will be reading more. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I have my library co-worker to thank for putting this one in my hand!!

A quick intriguing read. Like all of Christie's, the plot's the thing. The characters are not deep, nor is there much real complexity to the plot. Not the author's best.

I mean, it comes as no surprise that this book is great fun. I haven't read lots of Christie yet, but have a feeling this will always be my favourite. The story is well-crafted and has inspired so many other works -- a group of strangers stuck somewhere with no escape, being killed off one by one -- it still works just as well here as in current reimaginings. I watched the Lifetime movie of this recently, and see how how that film adjusted some plot elements to round out some characters and add nuance to others; this book doesn't delve as much into their characters as I'd expected, but that's not the point; the point is just the non-stop suspense and fun.

MIND BLOWN!!! I am impressed with the work of Agatha Christie. For it being my first time reading her work I am very pleased. Every time I thought I knew who the killer was an unexpected event would occur throwing my suspicion out the window. In the end the culprit was the last person i suspected (as i hoped). So much for growing up watching Scooby-Doo Mysteries .

This was my very first Agatha Christie and what a story! I tried it out because it was an audible version narrated by Dan Stevens. I swear he sounds like 12 different people. Amazing narration, highly recommended. I binged through the whole 6 hours in a day. It was incredible. On to more Agatha (and more Dan)!

Who Did It?A thriller that happens in an island. A series of murders without any clue about the murderer. The narrative is engaging and the reader get hooked in order to discover the assassin. Once one starts to read this book, there is no turning point. A delightful reading!
