Chapter 1 – Foreplay

Hah! Alice said triumphantly as she scooped up the dice from the table. Sister Gorebringer was still protected by the fire neutralizing cloak she cast on herself before this battle started. The effect of your Titan's Torch was nil.

Damn!! Pernel replied. I'd forgotten she'd done that.

Alice's eyes glanced across her character stats; a quick double check to make sure she had the resources for the next series of moves. Shaking the dice in her hand, she spoke out loud: Heavenly Water Hammer and cast the dice to the table. Double fours rolled up. Not very high scoring, but doubles increased the chance of stunning; and Alice was hoping for that. The computer rolled the Dice of Fate and it came up neutral; meaning the spell would be delivered at its regular strength.

Pernel rolled for a miracle and received none. The character of Sister Gorebringer reached her arms towards the sky on their home-theater screen and a mighty mallet shape of water fell, slamming down on Pernel's character, Armsmen Flaminator. The spells thirty percent chance to stun came in and Flaminator was knocked to the ground by the blow.

With his shields arranged for a frontal assault, Pernel's character was poorly protected for the maneuver. Ouch! Pernel said as the life indicator registered a drop in Flaminator's life force. Pernel punched a button that would feed the Armsmen a healing potion.

A chuckle escaped Alice's lips as she reached for the dice. Since you're stunned, I get to go again. Alice blew on the dice and whispered Be good to momma; then she cast them forth while saying Blast Arctica. The die came up six and three; the computer's Fate roll came up in her favor; and Flaminator again received no miracle.

Sister Gorebringer's arms came sweeping up over her head and an icicle the size of a tree trunk formed and went flying from her hurling hands. Flaminator had just made it back to his feet when the massive spike hit him. His shields blunted most of the physical damage, but he had nothing to protect him from the cold. The computer calculated the intensity of freezing with the fact that Flaminator was drenched in water, and declared the Armsmen frozen for one turn.

Flaminator's life force changed from pale green to orange and Pernel punched ineffectively at the healing potion button. Oh Crap... His screen was locked and the word Frozen flashed in rich blue letters across it.

Alice gathered the dice up again, shook them three times and said Bonflagaration as she cast them
