With fed up citizens, the city is on the verge of a vigilante uprising in support of their seemingly superhuman Vigilare with the sparkling emerald green eyes.Friend or foe, Vanguard Police Department has a job to do in bringing the vigilant one to justice, causing their own internal battle with right and wrong, immoral and just. Following their leads, Detectives DeLuca and Gronkowski find themselves pulled into a mysterious world of super blood and super powers, and closer to the Vigilare than ever expected.

It's a race to the finish between Detectives DeLuca and Gronkowski and the Vigilare to figure out who she is and why. The first in a trilogy, Vigilare-the one who watches over-comes to light. Where one system fails, another never gives up!

Brooklyn James

Brooklyn James is an author/singer-songwriter who savors any opportunity to combine both books and music. Her first novel, The Boots My Mother Gave Me, has an original music soundtrack, making for a unique Audible experience. Out of Boots grew a platform where it was Brooklyn's honor to serve as a guest speaker with a focus on awareness and prevention of domestic violence and suicide. Her latest speaking engagements centered around accessibility, rights, and choice in birth, as well as writing workshops on how to put pen to paper composing one's own birth story with the release of her birth memoir, Born in the Bed You Were Made: One Family's Journey from Cesarean to Home Birth.Just Shelby gifted both the challenge and the thrill of this author's primary exploration into the Young Adult genre. She cherishes feedback from reader reviews, if you should be so inclined.Moonlighting occasionally in voice-over and film, Brooklyn played a Paramedic in a Weezer video, met Harry Connick Jr. as an extra on the set of When Angels Sing, appeared in Richard Linklater's Boyhood for all of a nanosecond, and was a stand-in and stunt double for Mira Sorvino on Jerry Bruckheimer's Trooper pilot for TNT. Although reading, dancing, working out, and a good glass of kombucha get her pretty excited, she finds most thrilling the privilege of being a mother to two illuminating little souls and a wife to the one big soul from whom they get their light.Brooklyn holds an M.A. in Communication, and a B.S. in both Nursing and Animal Science.@brooklynjamesauthorwww.brooklyn-james.com

"High-octane, suspenseful, Vigilare grips you with its supernatural anti-heroism...Vigilare is not for the faint of heart. It is not for young audiences. This supernatural suspense thriller should come with a rating: Mature. For mature themes, mature language, and mature supernatural elements. It is cold and sinister and heroic and is absolutely worth every single chill that will undoubtedly raise the hairs on your neck or pump your arm as you cheer author Brooklyn James as she repeatedly takes out her skeleton key to open up every closet she can to tear through the layers of cobwebs that obscure the dark corners of humanity with her supernatural female anti-hero. And James doesn't keep a flashlight handy as she unlocks these doors. And she doesn't pull any punches either. She faces them. Head on.What James has given us is an anti-hero similar to Matt Wagner's "Grendel," a character through which Wagner explored the nature of aggression conferred by an ancient evil spirit as it moves from host to host, and Tim Kring's "Heroes" character Niki Sanders through which Kring explored Dissociative Identity Disorder as the alter ego, a modern-day rendition of the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde figure. The vigilante known as vigilare is not so dissimilar. It's an interesting combination if you ask me of supernatural power and split personality. But it doesn't stop there. James crafted a story that fully explores a scientific approach to hematology reminiscent of Michael Crichton's meticulous application of medicine while she juggles the pins and needles page-turner style of James Patterson.James has created a charismatic cast of entertaining, talented, and quirky personalities, from the assertive yet playful DeLuca to her law enforcement partner, the persistent yet courageous Gronkowski. The sexual tension between these two detectives not only reminded me of the fare so often seen on TV crime scene investigation dramas but also the generous demeanor Chris Carter achieved between Mulder and Scully in "X-Files," except on one point: DeLuca and Gronkowski aren't competing with TV ratings. James pushed the boundaries without diluting the spitfire dialogue and visual narration she so clearly enjoys as a spectator. She invites us into her own world and then turns the genre on its head. To liven up the scenes even further James provides comic relief through the absent-minded police chief and his exceptionally organized secretary, and the witty, cantankerous, courtroom dramas reminiscent of "Boston Legal" and "Night Court."Vigilare is a fast-paced, high-octane, supernatural thriller that has successfully managed to blend graphic novel grit with crime drama suspense. James has an infectious present-tense style that propels the story, always forward, though swinging back and forth between virtues and vices with such a ferocious and commanding stride she doesn't give you a chance to catch your breath. If you're looking for a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat, Vigilare is the book you've been looking for. It's not for the squeamish. Vigilare is for the brave, rising to the challenge when others cannot." ~ Read-Indie-Books
