    About the Author

    Foreword

Though these four short stories have their roots in actual events, the twists, humor, and surprises are of my creation. I love telling stories that entertain and surprise and hope you enjoy reading the ones I present here.

So, from four of the corners of my mind, come these tales.

Each represents different aspects of life: a dinner table conversation at which three generations come to understand each other a little better; a young cop learns from a dangerous veteran that not all training comes from the police academy; two adolescents discover that stubbornness and anger can be overcome by friendship; and a time when a nerdy college student earns respect from his peers and discovers that there is more to life than what meets the eye.

On reflection, these stories are about learning and growth for the characters. Perhaps the reader will be enlightened by reading them as well.

My greatest hope is that these stories provide you with some entertaining reading.

Don't do that, Gramma, I said. I'll take it.

Dad cut in, Hell, Mom, give it to Goodwill. Get a receipt and take the tax deduction.

I chewed on my roast beef and tried to figure the value of an old violin. Probably not much, unless it was a Stradivarius. Grandpa's wasn't.

    I didn't know Grandpa was a musician, I said.

He was a self-taught musician, Dad said. "He
