    Chapter 1

Luna feigned a punch to the face of her opponent, bringing up her arms to block her next punch and let loose a quick jab of her own to the chest. Once her opponent was off balance she did a roundhouse kick to the stomach, sending her opponent to the ground gasping for breath.

Point, match. The referee called, quickly stepping in between her and her downed opponent who was looking summarily pissed and ready to attack again.

The announcer came up to her congratulating her on her win, then handed her a first-place trophy. She was half blinded by all the flash bulbs going off in her face but very happy to be winner once more.

So, how does it feel to be the champion in the teen’s division for the second year in a row Luna? A man asked with a mic in his hand, another man standing behind him with a huge camera pointed in her face.

It feels wonderful. I never would have imagined it would happen again, though I was confident in my fighting ability. She gushed.

So, what do you plan to do now? A tall, pretty African American woman asked, tape recorder held out in front, another woman to her left snapping pictures, the bright light from the flash hurting her eyes making her squint.

I just want to relax now. I trained really hard for this and I am happy that I was able to put in my all and win. Thank you for your support everyone. Luna told them, done with the interviews.

There was no way she was answering anymore questions. The flashing lights, not to mention the repetitive questions were giving her a headache. She just wanted to head home and soak in the tub for at least an hour. She was hot, sweaty, and the back of her right thigh was beginning to ache from the roundhouse kick she’d dealt her opponent.

Luna glanced around the arena, looking at camera crews putting away their equipment while others spoke with a few fighters. She forgot that the fight was aired on television.

She glanced at the crowd who were cheering loudly, calling her name excitedly. She never paid attention to the crowd when she fought in tournaments. To do so was to lose focus; losing focus cost you the match and sometimes caused you unnecessary damage, which she had learned the hard way.

Luna rubbed her thigh gently, only wincing a bit when she touched a particularly tender spot, wondering if she strained the muscle too much. She hoped not. She didn’t want to limp around for the next few days.

When she first started to fight in tournaments she got cocky, showing off to the crowd. She thought she had won the match, but when she turned she caught a kick to the side getting a cracked rib in the process. It was one of the most painful experiences in her life thus far and a hard lesson learned.

Luna had been studying capoeira, a Brazilian form of martial arts since she was three, and karate and Taekwondo since she was 10. She was now 15 and the winner two years in a row in her age group.

Her father owned and ran a capoeira dojo, but she had wanted to learn taekwondo and karate as well because you couldn’t always dance around and kick, which is manly what capoeira consisted of.

She felt it was good to be well rounded in martial arts.

Their family had moved from Brazil when she a year old, moving to beautiful sunny California and her father now had one of the top dojos in the state, if not the country.

Television and movie producers had her father train actors and stunt doubles for movies. Some of the dojo students went on to be movie action stars.

Luna was looking forward to the day when she could open her own dojo. She was working on her own fighting style incorporating taekwondo, karate and capoeira.

Luna that was a wonderful finish baby girl. Good job. Her father told her, grabbing the trophy from her hands, hugging her tightly then walking her off the mat.

Where’s mom? She asked excitedly, looking around their area of the arena where parents had VIP seating.

Her father blanched, lowering his gaze and sighed.

She tried to make it, but something popped up at the last minute with the new line sweetheart. He told her; his face held a slight grimace.

Her father was a horrible liar.

Why did she even bother? Always something. She mumbled, and her dad gave her a tight squeeze.

Her mother was always too busy doing everything else but coming out and supporting her. If it wasn’t one thing then it was another. She had been trying to get her mother to come to her events for the longest time, but her mother had only been to 3 of her tournaments since she had gotten her ribs cracked last year.

Her mom always said it made her squeamish to see her fighting and she couldn’t take seeing her get hurt. Each and every time she had a tournament her mother had something else going on that was equally, if not more important than her event.

It was like she scheduled things on the days of her events or found issues with her designs or boutiques. Even though her mother didn’t want to see her get hurt she could at least come up with better or new excuses she sighed irritably.

Luna divided her time between martial arts practice, hacking secure company networks, and taking apart and rebuilding high tech gear, learning to build robots and so much more.

She was a tech geek and proud of it.

She hacked into local government databases, top financial institutions, schools secure websites just for the fun it. She was so good she hadn’t been caught yet.

She even got paid to change a couple of grades last semester for a few students who were at risk for failing.

She always snuck into the website from a backdoor, read or downloaded what she wanted and closed it when she finished, leaving the company none the wiser.

So how does it feel to be top dog again? Her dad asked with a proud smile on his face, rubbing her shoulder gently.

She wrapped her arms around his waist giving him a tight hug. It feels good.

Luna looked up into her father’s cheerful green eyes. He was so good looking. He was forty-five and looked like he was thirty. He was tall, 6’4, wide shoulders and well-defined muscles from working out daily. Naturally dark tanned skin, thick curly black hair, and his face like a well sculpted statue, high cheekbones, angular jaw line, full lips, thick eyebrows and lashes framing brooding eyes, and a Greek strong nose.

Luna took after her father in looks, except for her height. That she got from her mother. She was 5’3 with thick, black long curly hair that fell to the middle of her back, but when straightened fell to her hips. Her skin was dark like her father’s as well, and she had his moss green eyes.

Her mother wanted her to be an actress or a model and tried like the devil to get her into acting and modeling classes, but she fought her on it until finally she gave up and she was doing what she wanted to do. Her mother thought she was wasting her looks.

How do you feel about some ice cream? I don’t know about you but my throat is feeling kind of raw with a slight burn from all the yelling.

I’m game, but then I really want to get home. I need to finish up on my fighting program. I’ve just about got it complete, just a few more minor adjustments and I’m done.

How is it coming along? I would have never thought to train people to fight using a computer software program. It’s a great concept and I am so proud of you for coming up with it honey.

Her father walked her to the door of the women’s changing room, gave her a quick peck on the cheek then left to go to the men’s changing room down the hall. She quickly removed her uniform, took a quick shower then put on her clothes. A pair of tight white jeans and an off the shoulder loose fitting black shirt and black flat sandals. She lightly sprayed her hair with water and vegetable glycerin mix, applied a light amount of makeup then made her way out of the room.

Contrary to what her mother believed she liked to look good, though not to be conceited she didn’t have to try hard. She wished she had the opportunity to make use of her looks with guys. She went to an exclusive all girls catholic school in L.A. and was driven and picked up every day by their driver leaving her no chance to meet boys.

Her father and mother refused to let her date. It was the bane of her existence.

She stepped out of the dressing room and heard a clack and oomph on the other side of the door and paused. Easing the door open she peered around it and gasped when she saw a guy sitting on the ground with his hands covering his face groaning in pain.

I am so sorry. She cried, rushing over to him and leaning down at his side pulling his hands away from his face to check for damage and gasped. He was one of the most handsome guys she had ever seen.

He was Asian with shoulder length jet black hair, beautiful almond shape chocolate brown eyes, thickly fringed upper and lower lashes with high cheek bones. His face perfectly chiseled reminding her of actor Rick Yun.

He looked up at her and blushed, shaking his head slightly. You’re Luna Roja right? Wow, I got hit by you. He said getting to his feet.

She noticed his right cheek and forehead were red and winced inwardly, hoping it wouldn’t turn into a bruise, though he looked genuinely happy to be hit by her. How weird.

I’m glad you’re not hurt too badly. She told him, getting to her feet and turning to go but felt a hand on her shoulder detaining her.

Luna looked at the hand on her shoulder then up at the guy, her brow rising in inquiry.

He removed his hand blushing furiously. My names Hong Chen. I was wondering if I could have your number or I could give you mine if that’s alright. He asked looking at the ground.

He was so shy. She found that to be extremely cute. She was so used to guys asking for her number or asking her out but never had she encountered someone like him and fell instantly in like with him.

Sure, I would like that. Give me your number and I will give you mine. Better yet give me yours and I will program it in my phone then call yours so it will show up and you can just add me to you contacts. She whipped her phone out of her bag, dialing his number. Once it rang three times she hung up, added his name then smiled. "All done. I’ll give you a call sometime during the week or
