About this ebook
A young man with a terrible secret buried deep in his chest staggers through what remains of the American South. The destruction is total—the landscape scrubbed bare by the fires of the Reset. The sun rarely penetrates the daily ash storms, and the last of the Earth’s plants and animals are slowly dying out.
And yet, there are survivors. Benjamin Stone is one of them, and he’s searching for the only person who can share his pain, another who was biologically altered at birth to become a weapon capable of bringing the world to its knees. He has nothing, save the few supplies that sustain him in his search for a new life.
Nothing but a will to survive and the desire to find someplace safe—someplace better.
The Reset is a story of perseverance. It examines a future in which fragmentation and devolution have decimated society, and in which terrorism represents the final desperate attempt at shuffling the deck. With thematic elements similar to Stephen King’s The Stand and Cormac McCarthy’s The Road, it’s a post-apocalyptic story about the survivors of humanity’s cruelest intentions, and their essential impulse to rebuild.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Just finished reading The Reset, didn't take me long as the story just carried me along. I appreciate the way Daniel Powell explores the good and bad in man. Suspense, drama, romance, horror, The Reset has it all... When is the movie coming out? From beginning to end The Reset balances sci-fi and realism, telling a story of survival and hope, perseverance and persistent love.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Interesting consept. nearly out of my imagination range. Enough good people to offsset the horrid lot.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I received this book for free in return for an honest review.A positive honest review for this book is very easy. I enjoy post apocalyptic and dystopian novels. This book blends sci-fi features into the genre and does it very well. I have not read this author before but will certainly search him out in the future. The story and characters are interesting and really keep me up because I didn't want to put it down.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I was given the opportunity to read this for free in exchange for an honest review from librarything.com.This is a very smooth flowing book by Mr. Powell. A tad confusing at first, but all in all a good solid dystopian story. Recommended!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The Reset is a different take on mans fragility and enduring spirit. Ben is a likable hero and you root for him throughout the horrible events. A good story.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The beginning of [The Reset] seemed a little slow and confusing but as I got farther in things began to come together. [Daniel Powell] did a good job creating a dystopian landscape as well as characters that make you cheer for them. The characters could have been explained a little more because it was almost like a disjointed puzzle putting all the pieces together. If you liked books like [Alas, Babylon] and [The Road] I definitely recommend you give this book a read.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I’ve read a couple of books by this author, but The Reset is far and away his best one yet! The story – especially the early part – is definitely reminiscent of The Road by Cormac McCarthy, and also reminded me a bit of Earth Abides, by George Stewart. The story revolves around Benjamin Stone, who was a youngster when “The Reset” occurred. He sought sanctuary in a shelter, emerging ten years later into a new world where a nuclear winter had settled in and most of the survivors reduced to a hard-scrabble life. Benjamin spends years wandering around the southeast of what used to be the United States, surviving on what he could scavenge and questioning why he even bothered. But things change for the better when he stumbles into a farmhouse that offers shelter and even hope of building a meaningful future. Soon, he is joined by Alice, and this is where the author seems to have gotten himself fully engaged in the telling his tale. Although the world after the Reset is a cold and dreary place, there is plenty of hope, too. Soon, Benjamin and Alice manage to create a life that goes beyond mere existence. But what must they do to keep this almost idyllic life, when the threat of discovery in a lawless world seems imminent? This is a well-written and thoughtful book and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Rather than suffering in a dying world, the author paints a picture of hope and even the possibility that life after the Reset could be comfortable and rewarding. No one rises up from the dead in this book – the scenario is perfectly plausible and I found myself thinking that the apocalypse, if it did occur, could easily be very much like this. The plot was complex enough to be interesting and character development was great – I really did find myself caring about Benjamin and the people in his life. Readers who like realistic, well-written post-apocalyptic fiction will enjoy this book! Recommended! Note: I had the honor of being given a copy of this book in exchange for agreeing to write a fair and honest review. I have never met the author.
