About this ebook
Hamlet, Romeo & Juliet, Macbeth, King Lear, A Midsummer Night's Dream like you've never read them before.
And you can download mp3s by professional rappers on I-tunes.
Teachers and students read and listen to the rap before they read the play because it gives a real overview of these plays in a way that cuts through some of the difficult or archaic language and goes right to the heart of the stories themselves...with humor and rhyme. They're fun to listen to and easy to remember.
It's a great way to get started on that Shakespearean play.

DEDICATION
I dedicate this book to my father, Ralph Zaslow, who died before he could see a word of it. He’s the guy who always encouraged me to be a stand-up comic. And I’m the guy who’d always say yes to him and move on with my day as a copywriter for a Madison Avenue ad agency. I think he would have gotten even more of a kick out of this book than he did when one of my commercials would pop up on TV. I remember him saying, Bobby, that’s funny! But will it sell Maalox? Heartburn’s not funny.
I also dedicate the book to my mother, Bea Zaslow, who was the kindest person I’ve ever known. She was all love, which I know encouraged me to take risks and always believe in myself.
ACKNOWLEDGMENT
I must acknowledge four people, without whose help this book would never have been written. First, my wife, Ann, who has put up with me spending more time pounding away on my computer than any wife has a right to. And for encouraging me every keystroke of the way, laughing at my jokes, suggesting ideas, and not making fun of me when I try to imitate 50 Cent. Thank you for your commitment to make beautiful things as easily as you breathe in and out.
To my daughter, Yaara, who is serving in the Peace Corps, is a writer herself, and is a wonderful listener when I want to run an idea by her. If they gave out Olympic medals in empathy, Yaara would be in the lead. On behalf of all the people you touch in West Africa, Seattle, and New York, thank you for the incredible difference you make in the world.
To my son, Ben, the best industrial design student at one of the best industrial design schools on the East Coast, thank you for your enthusiasm and your energy. You inspire me with your work/creativity ethic. Of course, to you, creating and building things is never work because it’s so much fun. Thank you for constantly reminding me to be in awe of ordinary
stuff.
And to William Shakespeare, my favorite creative genius, thank you for those insightful, complex, gloriously poetic plays that have brought me such great joy and inspired me to boil them down in a way, I hope, that inspires young people to see or read the insightful, complex, gloriously poetic originals.
HOW IT ALL STARTED
When I was a kid, I read CliffsNotes whenever I had a hard time with Shakespeare, which was almost all the time. Please don’t judge me! I was in a very competitive class in junior high school, and everybody did it (except this genius named Paul, who went on to
