Rachel Griffiths ‘ART FEEDS MY SOUL’

Following on from her foray into the art world with Finding The Archibald, actress Rachel Griffiths returns to explore Australian landscapes. Combining travel, history and art, this six-part series sees Griffiths, 53, track down six masterpieces, including those by Arthur Streeton and Albert Namatjira, and travel to the exact spot where the artists captured their images.

What can audiences expect from the show?

The mission of the show is to get out of the city and to see regional places and hear regional voices talking about art. I’m super proud and think audiences are really going to love the art and travel experience. I think it’s fulfilling that love of our continent. We all feel very privileged to be Australian and living in this beautiful country, and I think this show celebrates that as well.

What do you love about paintings depicting landscapes?

Landscape painting has always been very democratic. The audience always feels safe to engage and have a feeling about it. I’d been in lockdown for a month and I remember looking at a painting of my husband’s, and I remember thinking, “I’d love to just go through that landscape and sit by that lake under that tree. I wonder how many other people are having that thought?” We all frame these moments of our lives.
