About this ebook

Was it at the visit to the vet's or the new office across town that caused April to lose focus? Actually it was a little of both. Tobler, her chocolate lab, has become fixated with Cotton, a vanilla dog owned by a tenant in the building where she leases an office. Since the playful encounter of the two mismatched dogs, April can't keep her eyes from straying to the handsome face of Jared, Cotton's owner. Near or far, he's on her mind...and she has no intention of pursing a crazy, unnatural interest in a guy that towers over her and has a personality that constantly attracts gorgeous, tall women. April doesn't view herself as having either attribute. She's the serious type who might want a kiss-good-night-date but she doesn't need another fractured relationship. Or does she? When opposites attract, little can be done to avoid differences.

Wil A. Emerson

Wil lives in West Michigan but has called many exciting cities her home. Dallas and Medford, New Jersey were particular favorites. A few years were spent in Europe, ein vunderbar ziet! Besides the writing life, her favorite past times are travel/beaches/tennis and golf. Throw in a good cook book and you'll get a gourmet meal. In less leisure days, as a registered nurse with a B.S., Wil served as a renal specialist and transplant coordinator for a major university medical setting. Between assignments, journeys out of the country and family duties, she wrote her first novel which included an enduring patient who left a strong impression. Her characters are still drawn from those important and interesting days in the medical/nursing setting. Mysteries and women's fiction with complex characters are her specialities...a new story is always in the making. Short or long...plot, pace and tension make for an interesting read.

    Chocolate and Vanilla

Tobler rested his broad head on my sandals. Trusting eyes beamed up at me but the droop in his

ears told me he wasn’t happy about our appointment. This time only a check-up for my best friend. No needles or probes in places that even made me wince.

Don’t worry, I said as I rested my hand on the back of his neck.

He edged closer but then took a quick glance toward the entry before the door opened. Someone with a pet I surmised or Tobler wouldn’t have shown any interest. Big or little, cat or rabbit, Tobler would be like the distraction. Tin bells on a chain jangled and Tobler’s soulful eyes rested on the incoming commotion. His ears stood high; attention directed at the large figure who seemed to be focused only on the wiggling animal in his arms.

The tall, twenty-something, man carried a white fluffy dog. A shiny coal snout and jet black eyes shot toward Tobler from under layers of wispy long white hair. A sharp yap followed and pierced the waiting room. Tobler stood and strained at his leash but settled with my first tug.

The sets of locked eyes of our companions were not the only source of static in the air. If my surge of attraction could have been measured, it would have peaked to danger level. Unexpectedly, I was drawn to this striking man like a polar magnet.

I’m definitely not the type who goes ga-ga over a good looking guy. So I re-focused, take a firmer grip
