About this ebook

Book Two of the Angel Series
Age: 9-12
A heartfelt story about a little girl, Becky, and her mother, Grace's experience on the newly acquired plantation, The Pearly Gate.

Earl Dubois dies from a prolonged illness, leaving his wife, Grace, and daughter, Becky, to tend to their newly-acquired Plantation, The Pearly Gate. Only more heartache ensues as the plantation overseer, Ole Cole, releases his bitterness and anger upon Becky’s beloved horse, Crimson. In the still of the night, a crack of a whip interrupts their peaceful lives.
Becky’s cry for help and a mother’s prayers reach the ears of God. He sends in Joyet and Darren, two angels, who uncover the mystery behind the caretaker’s mean spirited actions. Their mission is clear: to help bring broken lives together and to mend old wounds.
The well-bred Grace pursues her husband’s dream of having the finest plantation in the south. Her strong beliefs in God that all men are created equal brings much opposition among the esteemed Plantation owners, even from the dark-skinned people in her charge. This only fuels Cole’s anger and Crimson feels the bite of the whip on her back.

Truth be told, I like to write and help people. As a Christian and after teaching the bible for over twenty years, I decided that the main obstacle to overcome in class was the constant confusion by the students. Most had an opinion or belief that had little if anything to do with the Bible. So, I decided to take them back to the beginning. I have always maintained that truth of the Word of God manifests. If one doesn't see results, than it is time to figure out where the errs are in their understanding. From this perspective, I began writing in-depth bible study books for anyone who wants to know the Truth. My writings continued as I added children's books, a novel, fiction, and self-help books for teens and young adults. I believe everyone who likes to read can enjoy one of my many books.

The curtains were drawn closed. Two small candles flickered, one on either side of the stands next to the bed.

Dr. Jackson stood up against the wall, after he told Grace that her husband Earl had but a few minutes until the end.

Grief stricken as any wife could be, Grace sat on a small wooden chair, with her body draped over the edge of the bed, she held onto Earl’s hand, as tears washed over her face.

Earl could not form words, although he tried to force his eyes to stay open. Through slits, he saw a bright light appear in his bedroom. Out of the light walked a large angel and stood in the middle of Earl’s bedroom; his head just grazing the fourteen-foot, high vaulted ceiling. At first, Earl was startled and unsure if he was in a dream state, or if the angel was real. All he knew was that he felt a warm sensation wash over his body, like heated honey oozing from a silver spoon. He felt his spirit pull away from his body. It happened as sudden as a blink of an eye and next, he stood in front of a large gate.

Earl Francis Dubois, a firm, but kindly voice spoke from behind the Golden Gate, step forward.

Earl hesitated. For a moment, he was confused.

    Slowly, the doors swung open.

Earl Dubois took a step forward, and then another. He reached over and ran his hand down one of the gold bars on the gate. This is not a dream. His eyes grew wide as he took another step toward the angel.

Earl Francis Dubois? the angel asked.

This time he answered with no hesitancy, Yes.

Then, follow me. The great God Jehovah asked to see you, when you have arrived. The angel went to Earl’s side and ushered him through the open doors. Together, they walked onto a street of shimmering gold.

As he looked down, Earl could see his reflection. The street seemed transparent, almost as if he could reach down with his hand and it would disappear right through the pavement. Yet, it was solid enough to hold him up. He stomped hard just to make sure. For a moment, he had forgotten about the angel until he felt a soft touch upon his arm.

We must continue on, the angel insisted.

This experience was new and wondrous. Being a man of means and brought up in an atmosphere of respect, honor, and propriety, he wasn’t sure what proper etiquette would be needed in a situation like this one. He wanted to ask the angel several questions, but he wasn’t sure if it was allowed or not. As they walked, he looked from one wonder to another. Many things looked like the things on the earth, except the colors and textures were far different. Just as they passed a magnificent garden, Earl stopped in his tracks. Propriety or not, he had to ask a question.

Before he could say a word, the angel asked, Are you alright?

Earl ran his hand through his hair and answered, No! I am not alright. As his mind cleared, he recalled something the angel had said and it startled him. He began to pace back and forth in front of the angel with his hands behind his back.

The angel followed his every move. I cannot help you, unless you tell me what you are troubled by. You are free to speak.

Earl stopped and faced the angel. He gulped hard and asked, Did you say that God−God the Almighty−the God of the Universe wants to speak to me?

The angel smiled and nodded. Yes.

Well, I don’t know how you do things here, Earl began, the exasperation and confusion were evident in his voice, but I can’t just go walking in looking like this. Earl hoisted up his cotton-bed shift, grabbed it in a wad, and then lifted it up for the angel to see. As you can see, I am not properly dressed. I mean look at me, I am a disgrace. He breathed in deep. I would look foolish. I cannot go in looking like this. That’s that.

The angel took a step towards Earl and touched his shoulder.

Earl looked over at the hand. He felt a warm feeling wash over him, similar to the one when he first saw the angel appear in his bedroom. He felt peace in his heart and quietness within his soul. He felt the angel slip his hand off his shoulder.

Is this something that would please you? You are clothed in the robe of righteousness.

Earl looked down to see a white gown, with a gold belt fastened around his waist. It was nothing like he had ever seen or felt before. The touch of it against his skin brought back memories of warm summer days, the smell of spring, and the feel of Grace’s soft down comforter, which she had made from home-spun cotton, wrapped around his body. He rubbed the material between his fingers. He tilted his head and nodded. I’m sure God would not object to this at all.

Taking a step, the angel insisted, Then, we must continue on. God is waiting.

The rest of the way, Earl did not speak. He walked close to the angel’s side as he passed one wonder after another. It wasn’t until they stood at an arch that Earl paused and breathed in deep, as he expelled slowly. His eyes scanned from one side of the courtyard to the other, and then they followed upward a three-tiered stairway which ended at a grand temple.

Beyond this point, he instinctively knew they were standing before a royal courtyard. He pulled his gaze from all the magnificent architecture and breathtaking flora and focused on the angel.

The angel had stepped through the archway and turned. We must continue on, he instructed, through here and on up. He lifted his arm and pointed toward the glistening, white-domed temple.

Without missing a step, Earl followed close to the heels of the angel through the courtyard and up the grand stairway. Once on the top landing, they proceeded to the temple entrance.

Working for the King of England, Earl had seen many glorious and magnificent pieces of architecture and art. As he studied every structure and piece that he walked by, he knew that not one grand piece of art would compare to the magnificence of even a petal on one of the roses that flourished in the grand gardens of God’s Kingdom.

Coming through the temple entry, they past many round, marbled-white columns. Then, they entered into another room and Earl asked, What is this room?

This is called the Gathering Room. Here, many wait until they are called into the Throne Room.

    So, we are almost there?

    Yes.

Do I have to do anything?

No, just follow me. I will take you right to the Great God Jehovah.

When the angel spoke God’s name, Earl felt his insides reverberate with an electrifying sensation. Shaken, but steady on his feet, he nodded as they made their way through the next entry and into a space that was filled with more Angelic Hosts. He was startled to find other men and women. The room was so large that he could not even see to the other end of it. As they proceeded forward, he took careful note of how many responded to the pulsating sensation of power that emanated from everywhere. Hands raised in praise to God, while others were grouped together and in deep conversations. As they drew closer to the thrones, Earl felt intensity so strong that every emotion he had ever felt seemed to bubble up within him. Like many around him, all he wanted to do was to stop and praise God.

As if sensing what he was feeling, the angel wrapped his arm around his shoulders and helped him walk forward. He was thankful for the help.

Up ahead, Earl saw a grand stairway that stretched from one side of the room to the other. Up above was a platform. Set back against the wall were three magnificent structures, each more glorious and unique then the other. Gems larger than his fist were in bedded within the grand structures. Above them was a magnificent rainbow, more glorious than any he had ever seen. He knew that these had to be the thrones of the Godhead. He was surprised to see numerous other thrones on either side of the aisle. They were not as large as Gods’ thrones, but they were all as grand and unique.

    As if anticipating his question,
