About this ebook
Kelly has a wonderful marriage. So why is she so restless? Determined to get that elusive spark back in her life, Kelly takes off to her birthplace of Frankfurt, Germany, for the adventure of a lifetime. There she is befriended by the ever so charming David, who immediately appoints himself as her translator and tour guide.
Kelly is so totally in love with her husband, but finds herself wishing he were more like her new friend David. But it isn't long before Kelly realizes that life is not always greener on the other side of the fence. In fact, it can be downright deadly! (Christian Fiction/Romance/Suspense Thriller/novella)
EXCERPT: There’s nothing wrong with a married woman having a friend...or is there?
“Were you waiting for someone?” asked a deep sultry voice.
Turning slightly to get a better view in the darkened lights of the club, Kelly found herself looking up into the eyes of a strikingly handsome man. He appeared to be in his mid-thirties. And being that she was in Europe, Kelly could easily imagine that in an earlier time he could have been the model for the statue of David. He was more than chiseled.
“No, I’m just enjoying the bands,” replied Kelly.
“My name is David,” he said extending his hand. “David Holloway. Would you mind if I joined you?”
“Not at all,” replied Kelly. “My name is Kelly Cave...I mean Kelly Brooks.”
“May I refresh your drink?” asked David as he settled into the seat besides Kelly at the small table for two.
“Yes, thank you,” said Kelly. “I’ll have a white wine.”
After David had taken care of their orders and the waitress had returned with their drinks, they turned their attention back to the bands. When the last of the bands had played, the DJ switched the music to a lively array of dance tunes.
“May I have the pleasure of this dance?” offered David.
“Well I haven’t been dancing in so long,” said Kelly. “I’m not sure I know the latest steps.”
“Dance isn’t always about technique,” said David. “It’s about fun. You mean to tell me a beautiful woman such as yourself doesn’t have men lined up to take you dancing?”
“Thank you for the compliment,” said Kelly ignoring the question about men lined up. Fun. Was that even a part of her marriage anymore? The last time she and Jeff had danced had been at their wedding reception. Before they’d gotten married it’d been an entirely different story. They’d gone dancing at least two or three times a month.
“Yes, I would like to dance,” Kelly answered with an excited smile. “Let’s do it.”
The night hours passed like the wind. They danced and laughed and talked. The only time they left the floor was when the DJ would do a triple-play set of slow romantic ballads. On these songs, she conveniently excused herself to the ladies room, or said that she needed a little break. Even without her wedding ring, Kelly couldn’t imagine herself dancing that closely with another man. But as for the fast tunes, Kelly had a ball.
This was the most fun she’d had in years. If only Jeff....oh never mind. Forget the what ifs and lets party, she thought. And party they did.

Flight from Reality
Room 222 was a hilarious high school sitcom back in the early 1970’s. But there was nothing at all funny about the series of twos in Kelly Cavenaugh’s life. Kelly thought about her current situation and breathed a pathetic sigh as she sat waiting in the airport for her connecting flight. She had been married for exactly two years, two months, and two days and already she knew she’d married the wrong man.
Kelly slid over on the blue attached seats in the airport waiting area to make room for a frazzled mother to fit in with her three active kids. Kelly couldn’t help but smile as the head of the smallest child bumped her elbow. The little girl glanced at her mother’s stern face and immediately burst into tears.
I’m so sorry,
said the mother. Please excuse her. I’m trying to keep them still.
No problem,
said Kelly, rummaging through her purse for a tissue to catch the drops of coffee dribbling down her cup. Thank goodness the lid hadn’t come off, she thought. Hot coffee would have splashed all over this child’s face. Once the mother had the kids momentarily settled and sharing a pack of fruit Mentos, Kelly returned to her thoughts.
Jeff had seemed so perfect on paper. He’d possessed all of the qualifications she’d thought necessary to be the right life companion for her. First and foremost, he was a God-fearing man. He had a great job and Kelly had envisioned him being more than able to provide for the family they one day hoped to have. During their year of dating, she’d discovered that they’d both shared the same small town values. Right from the start, they’d gotten along great with each other’s families. And he was the ultimate gentleman. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d had to open a door or carry a heavy package.
Flight 42 for Frankfurt, Germany now boarding at gate 10,
announced the loud voice over the intercom. Kelly had checked her luggage so she gathered up her purse and hurried over to the large garbage can to dump her coffee cup. Earlier she’d been tempted to buy a few magazines for the long flight, but had decided against it knowing that her thoughts would be filled with her marriage woes. She handed her boarding past to the stewardess and went about getting comfortable in the wide first class seat she’d splurged on. Fortunately she had a window seat. As the long line of passengers filed by some slowed, checked the seat number of the empty aisle seat beside her, and then moved on.
Finally the stewardess turned the heavy wheel and locked the plane shut. Kelly was relieved that no one ended up sitting beside her because she really was in no mood to make polite conversation. After the flight attendants went through their pre-flight emergency instructions, the plane rolled down the runway gathering speed.
Kelly heard the sharp thud of the wheels retracting, and suddenly they were climbing through the air. She stared out of the window as the objects below became smaller and smaller. Just like my relationship, she thought. What had started out so big and full of hope was becoming smaller and smaller.
Kelly lowered the blinds on the window and reclined her seat. Closing her eyes, her mind immediately began to play back the events of that morning.
Baby, you want me to bring you up some coffee?
called Jeff. Or you coming downstairs?
I’ll be down in a sec,
Kelly replied as she snapped the top of her suitcase shut. She had packed last night after Jeff had gone to sleep and hidden the suitcase behind some long evening gowns toward the back of the walk-in closet. After Jeff had gone down to cook breakfast this morning, she’d made one last check to make sure she had packed everything she’d need for her trip.
What was wrong with her she wondered as she made up the bed? My husband is downstairs making me a wonderful breakfast, and I still can’t wait to get out of here. Her eyes fell on the wedding picture in the crystal cut frame that stood proudly on the mantle of their bedroom fireplace. In the picture they’d been standing in front of the beautiful Montclair Cathedral in downtown Montclair, South Carolina. It was a magnificent structure, easily the biggest Cathedral in the entire southeastern United States.
She’d been dressed in the Cinderella Princess style gown of her dreams. The top was fitted at the waist and blossomed out at the bottom, making her
