About this ebook
Although this book is aimed at struggling non-traditional students (typically defined as "over the age of 25"), the insights and techniques included in these pages can help any math student. In fact, these powerful tools can make the difference between passing and failing, hopelessness and a revival of hope, and giving up or persisting to graduation.
I'm going to give you powerful tools that have the potential of taking you into a deeper understanding of math and giving you better grades almost overnight. I've seen just one technique of the 20 included increase students' performances two letter grades in a very short period of time.
That's right. Just one of these eye-opening approaches to learning math can make the difference between failing and passing.
How important is that math grade? As important as completing the degree since I'm sure you have to pass a general studies or higher math course to complete your program and graduate.
The insights and techniques I share in this book came from my years as a high school math and physics teacher, from my subsequent years as a math coordinator at a university tutoring and support center, from years of teaching College Algebra for non-traditional and traditional students, and 13 years as a department chairperson in a university teacher education department.
I learned these powerful tools in the trenches with the artillery going off over my head and all around me (i.e., the stress and worry of students who are failing math and considering dropping out of college). These techniques work!

Math Rescue Kit - Richard Porr
What Others are Saying About Math Rescue Kit
My sister is in her Junior year at college and must get through several math courses for her health-related degree. She never was good at math, she never disliked it but it seemed to dislike her! She has hired some tutors to get her through some of the tough areas but she can't understand WHY she has such a block. The Math Rescue Kit DID tell her why and it explained math. In the very first section Dr. Porr discusses the mental aspect to math and why so many people can't get past the initial hurdle to begin seeing numbers in the way they should be seen. Jeannie's (my sister) problem is that she had to go back go the BASICS that she somehow missed in school and Dr. Porr's book helped her realize that . . . Jeannie is getting along much better now, not only because of the TREMENDOUS help this Math Rescue Kit gave her but also because her attitude is right, she is convinced she can achieve all the math goals required of her degree.

I am one of those
older college students" - although if you look around in the classes, it seems as though we are in the majority today and not the minority! - who was never good at numbers. I walked into my math classes with a bad attitude and have since junior high. I hoped that the Math Rescue Kit: Breakthrough Strategies For Nontraditional Students and Everyone Else would help AND IT DID. It helped first my attitude, which I agree really did stink. I hesitated taking my required numbers-related courses (both 2 math classes and a stat class) and put them off semester after semester until I almost ran out of time. Math Rescue Kit was a tremendous SERVICE in the way it explained my fears, helped me understand that my emotional attitude really does affect my ability to understand absolutes such as numbers, and actually made me want to learn math!"
