    Pink lips pursed, long pink nails tapping on the desktop, billionaire philanthropist Felicity Silverbush contemplated the anonymous e-mail pulled up on her computer screen. She didn’t like anonymous but the information it conveyed was compelling -- if it was true.

    It would be just like those money-grubbing malefactors to do something like that, Felicity muttered darkly.

    As one of the world’s leading animal rights activists, she received numerous e-mails every day promising to reveal some sinister plan or current program by major companies exploiting helpless animals. But the Axium-Meiers conglomerate was a notorious past sinner.

    But they are under new management, she said, pausing to peruse the e-mail again. Her vast fortune had been instrumental in that, too. Just the threat of a hostile takeover bid had been enough to send Axium-Meiers scrambling for a mutually satisfactory resolution. I helped to elect most of their new directors after I orchestrated that last shake up. They wouldn’t dare betray me by conducting experiments on chimps.

    Her baby blue eyes narrowed at the screen. If they had reneged on their promises, then she would expose their duplicity and slap them down once again. She had already kicked their feet out from beneath them half a dozen times, and until she received that damning e-mail, Felicity thought they’d had enough and would stay on the straight and narrow.

    Men! she huffed, eyes blazing blue fire. The socially conscious chairwoman she’d helped to be elected as CEO of the multi-national drug company had resigned suddenly three months back, citing family health concerns. One of the few men left on the Board of the old regime took over as Chairman. I should’ve realized I couldn’t trust him or his cronies.
